a_steezy
Has the sub box been bumped, dropped or moved at all? Could have knocked one of the magnets out of alignment. But for the most part it sounds like the coil is misaligned in the gap, either by warping or because the spider has got messed up somehow. There's a slight possibility that there's something stuck in the gap too that is rubbing on one side. definently hasn't been bumped or moved, only thing would be if the sub doesn't like speed bumps, but i've driven easy with it, and if it didn't like speedbumps there would be tons of subs with this problem-ooo IM thinking the the coil got hot and warped and is now rubbing the wall. Sorry man. definently a possibility, i know that with the power i'm giving the sub, the sub doesn't like it, after probably +-5 minutes bumping hard the coils start stinking and i can smell it, so i turn it down and let it cool, so could've over heated and warped only way to find out whats wrong is to take the woofer out, and look at all glue down points from spider to coneafter seeing the video, I still say its a bad glue joint between the coil and cone is this the spider and cone joint you were talking about? regardless i'm pulling the sub out tomorrow and ima check it out i'll post pics of what i find and see if you can help, like i said i know a majority of the stuff in there, just not really the specifics and all that, but i'd like to learn thanks alot also you think this could be warrantied? Forevrbumpn
probably a slinky coil if thats happening coil got so hot, the glue holding windings came unwound I have one in my garage Quote I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy. Zade08
Ya if it kept getting hot and smelling you probley got a warped coil. This is exactly why I sold my l7s a few weeks back and bought something with an aluminum coil. Unplug the sub man and push lightly in the center on the kicker symble and if it makes that scratch noise your coil is rubbing the wall. I know your not going to want to hear this but unless you bought the sub from kicker with a warranty there going to charge you an arm and a leg to trade that one in for a new one. When I thought I F-ed one of my 8" l7s up they told me it would be $150 a sub plus my old one. Shit for that I could have plugged it into a wall bought another one off of ebay and pocketed about $50. I only paid $80 apiece for mine so it wasnt worth it. Long story short. Unless its under warranty. Buy a new sub or subs. :-/ Good luck man. Sorry for the bad news. Neo_frog
looked in there with a flashlight, vc looks black and the white tube piece that the copper wires are spun around looks like it has melted and bubbledhow could i get this fixed??? any input on anything would help, thanks guys Depending on your Kicker rep and existing warranty, they should fix it at no charge. Take it to a dealer with the receipt and have them send it out for recone. Or order one and do it yourself. It's a good learning experience. Especially if you don't really care for that sub. Sorry for the bad news. thanks zade, i got this 15" for $160 shipped, kicker authorized, under refurb warranty.... up by now, but included in the $160 i bought a one year warranty through WaCA... I looked into it a little when i bought it and thought it sounded good now idk http://www.waca.com/AboutUs.htm they said they covered everything, looks like they use third party company's to fix but idk what the warranty covers, i dont know about them going into the sub with there other VC's and shit, ima call and talk to them do you think it would almost be beneficial to wall socket it and say the shit went crazy and maybe they'll replace it?
