Wagonized Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 a 4" coil will handle the power that he is giving it way better than a 3" ever would. while most people are dropping db's because there subs are getting warm and ohms are increasing he can still smash out the numbers. envy kills my good friend With the power hes currently running a 3" coil woofer with good cooling would be louder in both SPL and bassrace Id bet. 7k split between 2 of these 18s really isnt much power at all. A 4" coil will generally have better cooling yes but will lose efficiency due to the added weight which is what its all about when ur running low power With the OP now stating hes planning to upgrade power in the future now I agree with the decision of going with 4" coils. "Envy kills my friend" LOL get over yourself bud. Itll certainly be a nice setup yes but my envy would lay with a different style of build. The difference in reactive impedence based on the coil temperature from going from a 3" to a 4" coil is quite minimal compared to how much you can drastically vary the reactive impedence by altering the enclosure and testing. In other words if you stuck with a 3" coil woofer with good cooling and worked on keeping your box rise nice and low you'd have the best of both worlds....more power from or amps with the lower rise and a more efficient woofer with the 3" coil. Which would allow you to do the same results than with a 4" coil and more power. Customer service with SS might be heaven but its a lot more personalized with Cactus Id almost guarantee that. Particularly if your setup is doing good numbers in the lanes.
