Amalan Posted December 25, 2008 Report Posted December 25, 2008 how can i get a better ground to my chassis??? my rear battery idles at around 11volts and then drops down insanely when i use my smaller amp (around 1800w) my 3500w amp plays for literally a second then just dies. i swapped the rear batt to the front and it idles around 13.8 so im not sure what the problem is im pretty close to just running another wire up to the front - batt. i tried grounding to the rear seat bracket and that wouldnt work so i drilled a big ass hole into my chassis right next to the rear seat bracket and bolted it down there and it still sucks so what can i do to get a better ground?

If you are having that big of an issue getting a ground run a ground wire all the way to the front battery/engine. If you build it, db's will come... You might just be super unlucky and the back is a subframe that's only spot welded/glued to the main chassis, possibly even with paint between the parts. Seems unlikely though... I assume you've done all the usual ground preparation stuff like sanding back the paint? Often using factory bolts doesn't work so well because they still have a layer of paint inside the threads. 10.x volts fo' life!

Just a tip also try and keep your ground centralized to prevent grounding loops Loudness is no substitute for musicianship, and partial deafness is no badge of honor. Amalan Posted December 25, 2008 Author Report Posted December 25, 2008 yeah i sanded the shit out of it i have no clue what the problem is and its driving me nuts. the car is a 98 jeep grand cherokee but right now im just going to run the ground to the front.
