Box Design For Dd 8

well as a few of you my know i won a DD 1508.

i need to make an SPL box for my durangho. it will go on top of the 15 sub box being held over the subs by legs that just clear the sub (basically like a table) now i have plenty of 4 inch aero ports. and ive noticed my vehicle peaks around 49-50 HTZ

now i wanna build a box that will get me around there and give me a good or well TRY to get me a good number to compete in crazy 8s. so now my question is what size box should i make, dimensions? tuning the port?? ive never tuned an aero port so i need some advice. Thanks

im not sure about box size but tuning should be 4-6hz below your peak freq.

About 0.75 cubes and use 1 4" aero, external port.

Then just sweep and cut until it's on your peak

400-600w is plenty for what you're after. In Krazy 8's here a DD 1008 with this setup did 142db which I thought was pretty impressive for an 8.

DD recommends 1 cube tuned to 40 for daily usage. I have no idea what your durango peaks at though. Im designing a box right now for 2 1508s for daily usage 2 cubes common chamber, tuned to 36 hz with 32 sq in of port.

There is alot of talk about just how much these things like the juice. people running 1000 rms to them daily and burping with 4kw. Im going to try and put about 1500 total on them although I do have some orion 2500ds to smack them up for a bit. hhehehehehehe

i know its sad isnt it. I originally bought them as a low wattage daily bumper to keep my car in tact. now it doesnt look like that is going to happen. I must say DD built a rocking little sub. Its very very stiff. I think it would laugh at the RMS rating they gave it.

They do like the juice but 4kw? I don't think so... the coil is too small to dissipate that much heat fast enough. You might as well wall socket it.

First off, here's an 8 box as described above. Second, I only got 700-750 watts to each 8 at the last show, 142.7db, blah, blah! Need to tune more! This was lil' spl box followed by another a 1.5" thick wood box, but built to DD/Bk specs! 1 cf each with 16" of port area/cf and 16" long port. Sounded great.

SQL- Keep in mind - That is a real live DD Z1a amp - running my 2 8's and at 1ohm! Amp was down on gain, but the box plays down to 31hz, they are 8's, gotta give them a chance to live! Not!
