So my buddy has a 2001 camry xle, great car. we were about 60% done installing a low-line crunch amp to go along with my old kicker sub, less than 200rms total, 8 gauge Monster brand ampkit.

his dad comes in gloating that he's an electrician and says that you cant install this "system" because the car is already drawing too much power.....stock. but what kind of electrician doesnt have a DMM laying around anywhere?

he's a house electrician and he thinks that blowing fuses is the end of the world, i told him its a safety device and its meant to be blown if something goes wrong so theres no more damage done. anyways his dad keeps going on how you cant do this do that etc. and get this, he actually needed me to tell him why and where you needed to ground the amp. i told him on a surface that is clean with all paint grinded off then bolted to that spot then he actually started to look around under the rear deck in between the 2 speakers for a ground spot...

can i call bullshit on the drawing too much power? iirc a car barely uses 10-20amps of current with no accesories on and maybe like 60-70amps with all accessories on (i would need to clamp it to check for actual output though)

why you gonna call the

:bsflag:

on your friends father?

If that amp is the PZi1000 or whatever, it has like dual 30 amps fuses, and even running it down to 1ohm mono ( 4 ohm bridged only ) I didn't blow the fuses, or amp So if its not even pulling 60 amps ran down 2 times below recommended load, I'am sure it may be only pulling like 40 amps, maybe even less bridged at 4 ohms, which I hardly doubt 40 amps is going to hurt that electrical system, and if it did, with power that minuscule, just throw a cap in, a bat would be fine, but for such a low power set up, a cap is fine.

I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.

its a p500.2, does 500w max at 4 ohms bridged im pretty sure. but im saying, what kind of car has too much current being pulled from the alternator when everything in the car is stock. he used Google as his source too.

I can't give you numbers, but from what I'm given to understand, there is a small amount of overhead in the electrical system. If the car is stock and in good condition, it wouldn't be "overdrawing" power.

It may be possible this could be the straw that breaks the camel's back, but in my untrained opinion, it is highly unlikely.

Either way, I wouldn't say "call BS" but I wouldn't worry about it too much.

just sounds like he doesn't want you guys to mess with the car.

This all the way. I was thinking it, but didn't want to say it. lol

You may be offended by the above. Don't take it personally, I'm just abrasive.

its not his car, my buddy kevin pays for everything on it since its his car.

If it's kevin's dad saying it. iwould be more inclined to think that he doesn't want you guys to mess with it and is trying to say it in that sense because kevin pays for it. also, if it is his dad, does kevin still live at home?

he lives at home, but he hates being in his house cause of the dad. and now i can kind of understand why because he doesnt let him do alot of stuff (and dad has an anger problem), whether it be with people or with audio. if his dad is a real electrician, he could at least help us install it by giving us tips or something instead of forbidding it.

he sounds like a major B===> to me.

And far as the best connection ever.......

get a huge fucking battery, cut the top off, drop an alt in there and then pour all that into your big amplifier. or just smelt them all together.
