younggun69 Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 i'm looking at buying some components and the cross overs have me completely confused. First, how do you wire them if you only have 1 output on the head unit but theres an input for the tweeter? And what does the crossover even do? Thanks Dale - 'When life hands you lemons--make lemonade, THEN find someone whose life has handed them vodka and have one heck of a party....lol'

Thanks OK first off DONT run componants off a head unit they dont supply enough power for them. second the input for power comes from the amp the woofer and tweeter connections are OUTgoing to the speakers themself EDITR: and the crossovers cut/direct the correct frequencies to the correct speakers. drums/guitars to the mid/woofer, cymbals/highs to the tweeters Some people need a sympathetic pat... on the head...with my hammer Scientia est Vox "In Nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti" DONT BE AFRAID TO USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!!! kylecm85 Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 you just need to use the main input from your deck to the woofer side of the crossover. The tweeter input is if u are going to bi amp the components which means use a seperate amp on the woofer and tweeter. 94 lincoln mark viii h/u: kenwood kvt 614 Excelon comps: alpine type x amps: mtx 1501d mtx 4004 sub:2 DC lv4 12 wiring jl audio 0awg 8 awg sub jl audio 4 awg for mid and highs amp myspace.com/kylecm85 carstereolexington.com

What would these be for? Dale - 'When life hands you lemons--make lemonade, THEN find someone whose life has handed them vodka and have one heck of a party....lol'

Namosh Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 Some amps have RCA outs that you can run on to the next amp. You could buy an electronic crosover. You could use RCA Y-splitters. My Ram Quad Cab Blow-through
kylecm85 Posted January 21, 2009 Report Posted January 21, 2009 well first i would get a better deck. Because if u end up spliting the rca output three ways that is going to give u vary little signal output to ur amps. Which then you would have to max out the gains to get any output from the amp which you would prob try to keep turning it up to get more sound sending it into clipping and distortion destroying the amp and speakers. But if you keep the deck then you would have to get some y adapters for the rcas. But i would not suggest splitting it three ways. 94 lincoln mark viii h/u: kenwood kvt 614 Excelon comps: alpine type x amps: mtx 1501d mtx 4004 sub:2 DC lv4 12 wiring jl audio 0awg 8 awg sub jl audio 4 awg for mid and highs amp myspace.com/kylecm85 carstereolexington.com

I originally thought that you had to run a seperate set of rca's to each amp lol Dale - 'When life hands you lemons--make lemonade, THEN find someone whose life has handed them vodka and have one heck of a party....lol'
