i got a kdc 128 which is about the same.  also that one only had 1 rca out.  ok its like this im going to have 2 12" kicker c12's in a dual ported box w/ a kicker zx400.1 mono amp.  i want to add a fi ssd18 sub in a single box.  prob 1 more amp to go with that and that sounds about good for now.  so would I be able to run all that off a single rca out or do I need the 3 rca out one?  also I know this doesnt have anything to do with receivers, but can you explain the ohms deal to me because Im just not gettin this.  please in dummy because my brain is overworked trying to figure out all of this.  i thought all you did was hook these suckers up and your done.  i was way wrong.

RCAs: The sub pre-out is all you'll need for just subs.  Having more than one allows you to add amps for mids/highs.

Are you planning on running both 12's and the 18? B/c honestly I would just run the 18.  And one amp.  Ohms is the amount of resistance that a sub has.  Each voil coil has its own resistance.  you can wire them up in 2 different ways to either double or halve the resistance.  more resistance = less strain on amp, but more power, and vice versa.  There should be wiring diagrams somewhere on the site, if not ill add more to this.

i have already got the 12's.  well actually Im about to have them thursday.  if you look at the beginning of this thread that fella chris told me how to wire my system.  do you think that would be the best way?  the 18"  is what I want to get.  my friend told me to get 2 more 12's but I thought the 18 would be better.

Technically you CAN hook as many amps up as you want to a single set of rca's but they will all be controlled by the same volume/gain at the deck that way and you wont be able to fade between/amongst them.

THE DOWNSIDE to that-any time you split an rca pair...you do just that, SPLIT THE SIGNAL, or cut it in half.

So the amount of signal you would be giving to one amp w/ one set of rca's would be cut in half if you split it to rum 2 amps off that single set of rca's. The drop in signal would mean you would have the exact same output (how loud the speakers being drivin by those 2 amps would be) as if you were runnig 1 amp off 1 set of rca's AT THE SAME VOLUME/GAIN on the deck.

Thus, to really double the signal you would have to also DOUBLE the gain settings on the amps and/or double the volume ## on the deck to achieve double the loudness.

Hope thats not too complicated.

The good thing: there are other items you can get to "create' or "split" rca's that compensate for the loss in signal by aomlifying the signal output before it gets to the amps.

For example, there are line drivers that can change 1set of rca's into multiple rca's all controlled by the same master volume knob and will boost the signal coming out of the split rca's back to normal or even higher (8-10volts sometimes)

If you plan on running a deck w/ 1 rca preout, i'd suggest some type of line driver or line summing processor that will multiply your rca hookups w/ out losing signal integrity.

(I kinda half assed that explaination so lemme know if its still unclear i can find you some examples of the units i'm talkin bout)

I'm not saying you can't get an 18 in addition to the 2 12's, but I'd honestly stick with one size sub.  1 SSD 18 will definately get it done too, you'll hardly notice the 12's.  They'll kinda take up space.

Again this is all in my opinion, but i would go with either 2 12's or 1 18.  I wouldnt mix em up.  In fact, I'd save the money, upgrade to an Fi Q, properly amp it, put it in a well built ported box and call it a day.  That would be the best starter system I've ever heard of haha.  or 2 15" SSD's.

thats cool.  im going to see how these 2 12's work out.  i like to take things to the limit so if I can pack 15 12's in my car I would. lol.  I never been in a car with subs or had subs.  I just want it to be crazy.

ok will a equalizer be good for my set up since my receiver doesnt have one?  maybe a Boss AVA-1202 7-Band Equalizer.  nothing too pricey.

um... i guess it wouldn't hurt... boss isn't know to make good quality stuff...

look for audiobahn EQ or soundstream ones..
