How to wire multiple batteries (two)

Recommended Posts

How do you wire two batteries, one under teh hood and one in the trunk. Do they have to be the same brand?

A diagram would be great. Do you have to fuse every single power wire? I have heard something about solenoid isolators or something i dont know, but you dont have to use one?

Any information on this would be good

same brands wouldnt hurt things. people say that if u have different batteries with different capabilities then the weaker one might eventually drain the stronger one, but i wouldnt hesitate to run two different batts. as far as fusing, some people dont fuse at all, although i wouldnt recommend that unless u are aware of the risks and are trying to get that extra .1db for comps or something. i always fuse. u need to fuse the positive run withing 12"-18" of the first battery and the same from the second battery to the amp (unless the back batt to the amp is a short run). there is no need for isolators really, dont worry about them.

i likes me some audio stuff...

if possible run the same batteries and do fuse after the 1st and before the each additional battery.

Hey megalo i didnt quite understand the part on the diagram pointing to battery 2's negative. It says use negative from first battery or ground to chassis. I dont understand that part.

You answered your own question. You can either run from the second battery's negative post to a chassis ground or to the negative post on the first battery.

A couple links to some box builds:

Tahoe Box 1, Tahoe Box 2, Nissan Titan, VW GTI,

Mini-Bump, Hummer H2, Ford F-150

My own car builds (current setup --- under construction):

Overall Thread, Kickpods, Dash, Back Doors

If i jsut replace my battery right now and get a yellow top and then an additional yellow top to put in my trunk, should the wire connecting the batteries be run through the firewall and through teh car or under the car.
