when wiring multiple batteries and using fuses in between

Recommended Posts

when wiring multiple batteries and using fuses in between do you need to have a lower fuse rating or the fuse rating of your system in between each of the batteries.  For example I am going to be running 3 batteries and pulling close to 500 amps, so would I need at least a 500 amp fuse between each battery? I have seen people go and put 1 fuse like normal 18" or less from the underhood battery, then right before the 2nd battery, then after the 2nd battery, then after the 3rd battery, and then on to distro or busbar.  So would I need 4 500 amp fuses and fuse holders for 3 batteries then?

Thanks,

Steven

the fuse mounted right by the power source (batt) is there to keep the car from catchin on fire if you have a short.  It wont save your amp.  IMO even amps that have fuses never get saved by them.  Usually, in my experience, if the fuse is poppin' its too late.  (unless it was too small for the amount of draw to begin with)
