Pt Door Pods...

Recommended Posts

I am re-posting these pics from my build here, cause I know most people don't search the builds section when they are looking for ideas for fiberglass pods.

Here is my third time fiberglassing. 1st was insides of my wall, second time was for my a-pillar pods and now for door pods.

I had bought 2 sets of the entry level Mb Quart ESA 213 5 1/4"s and planned on 2 sets per door, but I could not come up with a way to get them to look right, so I took the easy way out and just went with one set.

I use one small fiberglass kit that comes with everything needed, an XL Fruit of the Loom T-shirt from walmart ($4.50) and some Ozite carpet form walmart, with very little backing on it, cause its hard to stretch!

The pattern was made with raammat ensolite, so I can use it on the back for a gasket against the door panel. The frame is 1/4" Birch from hobby store, and some small dowels screwed and glued in.

The t-shirt gets spray glued and stretched, hot glued around the edge, resin, then one layer of glass cloth and resin, then spray adhesive for carpet and hot glued around the edge.

I spent minimal time with a dremel grinding away any rough spots cause I knew that the carpet would cover everything.

The insides get a small ensolite disc glued in and will get a little polyfill, too.

Hope to get them mounted on the door panel this weekend! :D

...you guys see pics there now?

yes sir :D

Those look awesome!

I didn't want to jack your build thread, so Ill ask here....how is the pod going to attach to the panel?

Also, theres one edge on my panel that isn't flat/ even with the other edges (where the pocket is)...do you have any tips on making the pod sit flush on an irregular shaped panel?

heres a pic

My panel is completely flat so I plan to spray glue the ensolite foam sheet to the back to act as a gasket. I will remove the panel from the car, and use 3 small bolt/nuts with some wide washers and just bolt them to the panel from inside the pod.

(Can't see your pic while at work), I'll take a look when I get home. The best way to do uneven panels would be to cover the door panel with tape or aluminum foil and glass (the back of the pod) to match the shape of the door exactly, then build off of that. (Sorry if you already knew that!) :P
