Help W/ 99' Oldsmobile Intrigue

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be helping my cousin install a new H/U in his vehicle this weekend. The vehicle though comes with a factory Bose system which has an amp. Will the installation be as simple as removing the the stock H/U and replacing it with the new one or will we have to do something else?.

We've never worked with a car that has a factory amp before.

Usually there is an extra harness for cars this have an intergrated amp. what it does is just plugs into the harness from the radio and allows you to bypass the amp already in the car so the amp can stay in there, it just wont have any power or signal going into it and wont be needed anymore.  :D

Ok. I see.

Well my cuz just told me he bought a harness that fits into the factory wiring. I believe it looks like one of these.

What do you mean by power and signal?. By that do you mean like the black ground wire and yellow battery wire ect....???

The link just get me to a search screen. But I mean the factory amp would be getting its power from the radio harness however since youre getting a new radio that already has an amp built in, the factory amp wont have power anymore. All youre doing is unplugging one of the harnesses from the factory system to plug in to your new radio to by using that extra harness you have to get. Then what you'll be doing is connecting the speakers in your car without using the old amp because it will no longer have any power or signal to amplify cuz at this point nothing will be connected to it. it will just be a hunk of metal that you can take out and box up or leave in if you want but it wont do anything. Its easiest to just get the harness cuz otherwise you would have to run new power and speaker wires to your new radio.  :D

EDIT: the link finally worked and yes it looks like the one you need.

Shoot that's what I was thinking. I was talking to some friends and surfing the net for more info and I believe your right. What I'm thinking is perhaps when we connect the unit with the wiring harness he purchased is the H/U will turn on, but no sound will come out due to the fact that the speakers are connected to the factory amp. Is it even possible to connect his new aftermarket H/U to his factory amp?. Or will we just have to disconnect the amp and connect the speakers directly to the H/U?.

Most buicks and olds (lesabre/century/ park ave) need a "peripheral" unit. Like a "converter box but w/ the plug conversion from stock radio to delete the bose amp setup and get the correct signal. I am looking at one for my buddies Lesabre.

I been slacking on gettin the info on it cuz he's waiting on his taxes to be done and his return to come back. I will get you part number/link or both as soon as i have it.

I bet Ray knows already. :whistling:

You can check Metra.com or P.A.C.'s website. they do install kits and peripherals and adapters.

This is the wiring harness he got still don't know if it will work. He got off work late so we will work on it until tomorrow. He dropped it of so I wired it to the other harness that plugs into the H/U.

Just in case we don't get it to work I'll still be checking back for answers. Otherwise we'll just go to a local dealer to get it installed which we will hate to do.
