Explosivesound Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 I just got done with my electrical in my SUburban, 4 iraggi 300 amp alts (14.6v) 4 d3100 batteries, etc. With 2 Atomic 5000.1's that do 5000rms at 2 ohms each. Sound deadening is completed. I have three sub choices no others. Unfortunately I know no one in my state (Oregon) running any of them. Any input is appreciated. Box will be tuned to 32hz. Daily Demo/groundpounder, once in awhile comp. (like 2 times a year.) The subs are, in order of my preference so far; 2 Atomic APXX18's with 4 inch voice coils 97.1db 1w/1 and only a 10mm XMAX, 2 Soundstream xxx 18's, or 2 fully loaded BTL 18's. From what I can tell the Atomic has the greatest sensitivity and rms capability but by far the smallest XMAX, The XXX has the largest XMAX at 30mm and is tied with the atomic for power handling but the lowest sensitivity and the lowest fs at I believe 22.9hz.The BTL is lowest in Power handling, middle in Sensitivity, second in XMAX at 28mm. The Atomic is best in everything other than the XMAX I just dont know how much that actually matters, and the Soundstream is high priced. I believe the magnet weight on the APXX is 360, the Soundstream is 1150oz., and I dont know on the BTL. As far as I can tell though the magnet weight isnt horribly important otherwise the Soundstream would have no competition anywhere.
Beanz Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 on that sensitivity with the atomic wont take much power to get them loud but then it wont take them that much to blow.and that BTL may be rated lower but if given the right good clean power then it can take upwards of 5000 rms like steve meade has.but just like any sub it maybe wont last hours on end of 5000 watts. That's why they don't deliver. Yer ass better go sit along the side of the road and wait. You can't expect them to travel up some dirt road in a hick / back woods town. Thats how horror movies start I explain things very simply and use analogies in terms of Pickles, and grape drink, pool noodles and jackhammers...if you can't put 2 and 2 together there man, There simply is not much more I can do.

Explosivesound Posted March 19, 2009 Author Report Posted March 19, 2009 I forgot to add the Atomic is rated at 30,000 watts for 3 second burps, and the company will recone for $100 each time for life. They said 5000 watts all day is no problem. They said I could run 7500 rms as long as it wasnt an all day system. Of course I want that flexability which is why I originally got the two Atomic 5000.1's
Boon Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 APXX for sure IMO. The Xmax rating is odd, I have a friend with 2 APX10's and they move a hell of a long way even though the 10 has a quite low excursion structure. It's possible they're talking TRUE xmax rather than xmech or anything else. The APXX will take the most power of the 3 as well. The last thing I should mention is that those AT5000.1D's don't make 5000w @ 2 ohms. They make about 3600w @ 1 ohm @ 12.8v or 4000w @ 0.5 ohms To get 5kw out of them you need 1 ohm and 14.4v. 10.x volts fo' life!
