Yes, you can extend the port to the outside of the box, it will not change the sound as long as you recalculate your tuning due to the fact you will have less port inside the box therefore less port displacement. This will increase the net size of the enclosure. But you have to take the vehicle into consideration. In some cases it can really change the way it sounds. Yes, it won't change the Fs if it's done correctly, but it may load differently and affect the overall sound. I still wonder what the goal is though... Need an install? Any time you change where the ports / drivers are in the vehicle it can change your output, just like moving the box around to increase SPL. 97 Maxima SE Bunch of shit going in, check out the build Build Log
