Colin - STAPUFT
Oh no.... "super tweeters" I couldn't help myself. I had an amp that was open, some tweeters laying around, and I was getting the itch to do something. My wife was just shaking her head- "So, you are going to put those down there by my feet so I won't have ANY room, right?" - "yep." was my answer. lol --- On a complete side note: You know your build log is old when your current camera phone takes better pictures than you first digital camera you used on the build. That is all.PICKTUUREZ! For now they are crossed over at around 3,800k at -6db with some caps I had laying around. I plan on getting some better quality capacitors and crossing these over somewhere between 6,000-8,000 hz. That is where they start to shine anyway. One would think that these would bring the soundstage down, but they don't. These are aimed on-axis (or as best I could considering foot room, e-brake pedals, and air ducting). I have them wired at 8 ohms per side and each side is wired bridged to the front and rear half of a 4 channel amp. So- I can adjust my Left and Right gains on these independently, which is nice. It is quite evident that I will have to get to the EQ and cut a good bit of the higher frequencies down. These scream even with the gains all the way down- well below clipped signal. Lord- I don't want to think about that. Brr. **EDIT for vid** SUUPATWEEEETAAAAZ!!!! 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain. Colin - STAPUFT
Got bored the other night with by fellow audio nut Mike from HYPER. This happened to my (already bad) spare Vega: Told you 3" voice coil. ...but very small gap. It may have been late. But how you guys like my new top hat? Get it!! Top Hat!!! Ok seriously though: Who knows who can help me? I can get any needed measurements including Voice Coil Thickness (have access to a micrometer). As much as I would love to keep Vega Cones, I know that is impossible. Recone kits would be nice, assembled top hats nice too. Price is always a consideration as well. I would like to do this one first to see how it goes, then I would need 12 more. Later all! 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain. Colin - STAPUFT
You trying to get in the book of world records by having the most speakers installed in one vehicle ??? Ha! Not at all sir- I will leave that stuff to Trippi and real heavy hitters. I just don't know how much longer these can go like they are. A man has to have contingency plans you know.... Sub building is kinda my thing now. I can help you. Are you wanting drop-in recones, or full rebuilds? Hit me up if interested, we can maybe figure something out. Awesome sauce. I Thought about sending you a PM earlier. Your new subs are beasts! This one I actually need a voice coil, spider and surround.... so this one really needs a full soft parts rebuild. The 12 in the van right now have good Voice Coils (all read good and seem well aligned) but really only need spiders. Only issue is, I will never get them re-aligned in the gap after taking them out. I guess what I am saying is that I am just after new soft parts. Magnets and Baskets are fine. 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain. Purplehaze
Okay yeah just let me know. That would basically be a rebuild, even though the coils are good, it's hard to re use them. So when spiders, cones, or other soft parts need replaced, it's usually just time to "recone" them. But I consider it "rebuilt" when you recone, but with parts different than the original ones. Right off I can see the spiders could use a serious upgrade. The gap is tight, but that's okay. Actually that is good IMO. You may be able to find a different coil that will fit, and increase your subs power handling a little bit. I think it's fun to go thru a sub, and find things to improve on it, and try to make it "better than it was originally". And so far it has turned out well for me in all cases. Not just the monster subs. But yeah, just holler at me if you decide you want to talk more. We can figure something out for sure. You could probably just send me that one sub, and from it I could build all of your drop-in's, if you wanted to try to do the other 12 yourself. Or I could do them all. Or just one at a time. It's totally up to you, just let me know. I would be honored to help in any way with your build. Colin - STAPUFT
New toy!!! I hope to have time to hook it up this week. I'm a bit excited. Jim Fosgate's old school surround sound processor. It does all kinds of cool stuff. It even came with the manual. 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain.
