Colin - STAPUFT Posted August 19, 2012 Author Report Posted August 19, 2012 you just use your amps for reverse lights? Haha- nah man, I keep them covered most of the time.... Especially at night. Police don't really like all of that blue being displayed. I got some vinyl like material and have that covering up the amps. It is a dark blue and doesn't let the light pass through- hard to see what is in there and hard for the light to get out. 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain. Colin - STAPUFT Posted August 25, 2012 Author Report Posted August 25, 2012 Drove around today and put the stereo on blast for a good minute, then busted out a temperature tester I borrowed from a friend. It was about 80 degrees out while I was driving and I gave the alts a pretty good workout. These are the highest temps I could find on the alts. 160 Degrees on the second alt installed in the A/C location.... 182 degrees on the one in the factory location. Just in case anyone didn't see it earlier- these are both the small case CS-130 GM alternators. I gutted both of them and rebuilt them with 220 amp output kits, then put some teeny tiny overdrive pulleys on them. They are wired together- both charge the single under hood battery. I'm sure they get much hotter when the temp is hotter outside and when the van is sitting still. They can't dissipate the heat nearly as fast as a proper large case either.... Not too shabby for on the cheap, but I am still having voltage trouble at idle when the motor is HOT. It drops down to right at 12 volts simply because the van Idles so freakin' low. If I had to guess, around 700 RPM. With just the weight of my foot on the pedal, it jumps up to 13.8 volts at around 800 RPM. The idle set screw can't be accessed though because it is capped off from the factory.... so, either I am going to drill it out to be able to adjust it, I'm going to find some easy way to reprogram my ECM chip to bump up the idle (I don't think this van works that way though), or I will just tack something to the end of the Set Screw to give that tiny bit of RPM to help at Idle. 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain. scooter99 Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 I was flipping channels at home today and found this and though about you buddy!!! Gotta love that movie! So on the alt, glad you posted that, how did you bump up to 220. What kid did you buy? I don't have a GM or an Astro, but I have a Ford F350, and the 3G alt I'm going to swap out to is 130 amps. I'm gonna try and get two in there, and if I could rebuild them both to 220, that would be HAWT! Could you help me out with some info? Facebook Page: S99Creations 2006 F250 Lariat Build
Colin - STAPUFT Posted September 1, 2012 Author Report Posted September 1, 2012 those arent projector lenses are they?, just a reflector on the back and a clear lens on the front i assume?. anyway looking good bro Nah, not the projector lenses. They are made to put bulbs in instead of the one piece OEM. They do have a shield for the bulb to keep from blinding people with the element itself. That and the HID element has its own shield. Mike at HyperLED came up with the whole sha-bang, so I can in no way take any of the credit for that- but thanks! I was flipping channels at home today and found this and though about you buddy!!! On the rebuild kit- it was an alternator manufacturer / rebuilder that also sold parts and kits online. Sadly, they are gone. Last time I went to their page, it just said domain for sale. I think they were SPRING HILL ELECTRIC or AUTOMOTIVE or something like that.... AUTOELECTRIC? Can't remember for sure. Just keep looking online for your application I guess- I just got lucky to find these I guess. Sorry I can't help you more on that one. 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain.
