mhuck123 Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 OK I am going to try to do this without being too wordy but I'm not sure if that's possible. I am building a new vehicle that is centered around 2 18" Kicker SoloX's and at least 1 Hifonics Maxximus, 4 Batcap 800's, a 300 amp alternator (advise on brands needed) and a sealed box. I'm looking to be king of the streets not an SPL competitor (not too many shows in Los Angeles for sound competition) and I don't have the room I think for vented but 150+ is what I'm looking for. Now for the crazy part. This is going into a late 80's Cutlass Supreme lowrider complete with a fully equipped hydro setup and at least 12 batteries just for the hydros, but it gets worse I need to keep the base of the box at the edge of the hump in the rear trunk and the top as close as well. I plan on leaning the woofers forward at least 40 degrees or so to get them in. If you have not seen the Oldsmobile trunk it has a flat floor with a hump over the rear diff that is approx 20". I know, I know WTF right....... Here is my plan, I have already measured volume and if I build the box through into the passenger compartment as basically a huge center console I can get over 10 cu ft of airspace (4+ in the trunk and 6+/- in the car). It has to be a center console though because i need to keep the seats in the front and rear, basicall using buckets all the way around. To get the volume numbers the box will be the height of the seats and waterfall down to a console all the way to the dash and firewall. If you have ever seen a Mercedes Maybach with the center console in the rear that is a good interpretation of the design but all open box inside. My first question is the amp, can it tackle 2 in a semi daily driver? Second Batteries and alternator up to the task? What danger/drawback if i use them in the engine and run 1 gauge to the rear? Third I have always heard the shape of the box does not matter and in this case i sure as hell hope so but advise please Fourth Sealed box with the woofers in the trunk, am i going to get the bass in the cab i want or port through the entire package tray? If you have never worked on one its 4" deep and the width of the car, I'll cut the whole damn thing out if its necessary. I know this sounds crazy but if the volume is there and the speakers fit I know it can be done. Ideas, tips advice, anything will help. i really respect the guys on here and I will take all opinions into account. I have built a lot of cars before but this is just out of my league to tackle myself. Don't kill me guys, PLEASE!!! I'm building this thing somehow! Starting From Scratch!!
Boon Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 A 4th order bandpass might suit your application fairly well, especially if you make the rear (sealed) chambers very small. It's a good way to direct the bass into the cabin. Hrm. I wonder if you could do some sort of horn running from the front to the back with the opening at the firewall... 10.x volts fo' life!

I dreamed of that but and not clear exactly on the rules for the different order boxes. Is 4th order where the rear box just literraly has to enclose the speaker or is there a percentage of size? I want all the base possible in the car. Thanks!! Starting From Scratch!!
mhuck123 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Report Posted April 17, 2009 Any more advise? I'm ready to build this thing! Starting From Scratch!!
mhuck123 Posted April 20, 2009 Author Report Posted April 20, 2009 Anymore advice? Still need help on batteries and alternator to run the Maxximus and if it's enough power........ Help! Starting From Scratch!!
HHR Ed Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 a maxximus is a good choice. I have been using mine daily for about a year. Just selling it now cause of low cash flow. But 150 is a steep goal. Solo Xs arent that loud so maybe choose a better sub. Also, because of space restrictions, it will be easier to get to 150 with 2 to 4 12s in a ported box.
