Biggest Mistakes Made While Box Building

Recommended Posts

i been through the wood splitting thing sux but i got around i

now i laughed my ass off at my friend. he was putting a 15" PA fubar sub in a 325i BMW took a bunch of measurements, done all kinds of calculations for the port ect.

built the box but could not get it through the trunk opening, thats the where he didnt measure

Did he atleast sell the box for more than he payed in materials?

My first box i built i didnt take that same thing into concideration, so i had to take out the back seats and get in thru the truck that way.

Ever seen anyone so stupid that they just mount their subs to a board instead of have a box?

I have a seen a couple REALLY clean and decent sounding (although not LOUD) setups using an INFINITE BAFFLE or "free air" like you described w/ subs mounted to a board and if done right it can get great SQ but will not win many spl comps.

When I was a kid I went through the usual spitting of mdf a time or 2 before i learned the tricks.

I almost set a fiberglass box on fire mixing the resin/hardener wee-bit too hot in the 100+degree cali heat and it started to smoke. I chilled it out w/ some ice cubes and in the end it overdried and cracked a lil but i just layed more glass over the top and made that area thicker and no-harm-no foul.

Part of the problem was i tried to thicken up the resin w/ some MDF sawdust and that acted as fuel for the and seemed to accelerate the hardener. Yikes! I was freakin out and the ice cubes were sizzlin. :P

i have seen subs setup in a infinate baffle and it looked simlar to that, kinda like mounted in the rear deck of a car and used the trunk as the box.
