Before I hooked it up, I set my amp to JL specs and have the gain half way up at the desired voltage of about 38v, which means I am getting the correct output voltage....put sub in and it sounded pretty good (just need a better built box). Once I got on the road, the output was cut in half and the performance of the sub sucked...I figured I was loosing voltage and that I have not had a chance to check my voltage while the truck was on, right now, I have 3 amps...a jl 500/1, jl 300/4, and an alpine mrp f250. Will I need a new alternator to run all of my equipment to get the output I need??? and how big of an alternator would I need?? Right now I have an optima yellow top, so the battery shouldnt be the problem... Thanks. THE BASS KICKS AND THE HEADS TURN. neutman21 Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 Somewhat...I tested my battery with a voltage meter with my system cranked while the truck was running and i was getting at least 13volts from the battery....so I don't think its an alternator problem... I haven't been able to find out why this w7 isn't running right...I figured it was the box, the JL dealer told me it looked small...but I did my calculations and its at 1.34 cubic feet...which is a little bigger then JL's requirement at 1.25, will this make much of a difference??? I know this w7 can make better sound...it seems like it kind of pops when I put my head close and listen and it only gets loud on lower frequency bass. THE BASS KICKS AND THE HEADS TURN. Though that wouldn't affect the volume dropping at speed. Anti Peel and Seal...lol You may be offended by the above. neutman21 Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 Ground looks good, but it wouldn't hurt to make a new one...if it was my ground, would I still be able to get the voltage I need without a huge turn on the gain??? Im thinking about adding a line driver to see if its my input voltage that is causing the problem... i tested the gain with test tone cd and I was getting an input voltage of around 2.75 volts... but that is with the music at max volume and subwoofer setting all the way up...
