Chris
Unless it's cheap 4awg. x2 on the new amp though, sell that thing after you use it for a test vid if thats what you want. Chode69
a RF T3002 and wire it to 2 ohm mono you can get anywhere from 600-800 RMS out of that amp will push that sub pretty good Quote NoFearX18 said: Nick will bang just about anything.....LMAO....pun intended On 4/13/2010 at 9:51 AM, meade916 said: i was like DAMN, Chode is hardcore! he makes james look like a friendly person LOL! trainman0978 said: I dont know who is worse with the buttholes Chode or Big P... Kicker Guy
you said its a 4ohm DVC? till you get a new amp.... run 1 coil bridged. As for a new amp.. Id go with Chode Quote Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-P6000UB Sub Amp:American Bass VFL 500.1 Subs: 4 Fi BL 18's Enclosure:21.5 Cubic foot flat wall tuned to 40 hz Batteries: 3 Kinetik 2400's in the back, Kinetik 1200 under hood. Id go with Chode you gotta have both coils wired or else you can blow the sub. always hook up every coil. SVC DVC QVC ALWAYS hook up EVERY coil. Kicker Guy
That is incorrect Chode, multiple coil drivers were made to create options for wiring Quote Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-P6000UB Sub Amp:American Bass VFL 500.1 Subs: 4 Fi BL 18's Enclosure:21.5 Cubic foot flat wall tuned to 40 hz Batteries: 3 Kinetik 2400's in the back, Kinetik 1200 under hood. Chode69
yes....i know that. i can show you post from the past on the Rockford forum where i have said those exact words. but you MUST have each coil wired whether its wired to the amp or to itself to parallel or series each coil must be wired you your telling me i can wire a DVC sub and only have 1 coil hooked to the amp and the other totally not wired to anything and it will be fine. yes im sure it will work for a little while but it will end up fucked up. Kicker Guy
The only way it will ever get fucked up as you say is when someone thinks it still has the same power handling, when only using 1 coil you have to figure that the RMS of the sub is 10% to 25% lower, other than that it is perfectly safe to run a DVC with 1 coil wired Edited March 2, 2007 by Kicker Guy Quote Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-P6000UB Sub Amp:American Bass VFL 500.1 Subs: 4 Fi BL 18's Enclosure:21.5 Cubic foot flat wall tuned to 40 hz Batteries: 3 Kinetik 2400's in the back, Kinetik 1200 under hood. sean 371
I believe the RMS rating per coil is half that of the sub itself. Could be wrong there, but that's what I've always read. SO YOUR TELLING HIM to send the full "rated" 1100 watts RMS to a DVC sub with 1 coil hooked up meaning 300 RMS....that totally contradicts what you said earlier "when only using 1 coil you have to figure that the RMS of the sub is 10% to 15% lower, other than that it is perfectly safe to run a DVC with 1 coil wired" thats about 370% OVER its rated power....not perfectly safe now is it??? Kicker Guy
lol ok I guess its time to get technical First of all that "1100 watts" will NEVER happen with 2 20 amps fuses.... 40 amps X 14.4 volts = 576 watts (won't see that either) Can't argue with Ohms law! Next... I am sorry about the 10 to 15, I meant to say 10 to 25 it was a typo I will fix after this..... Quote from Dan Wiggins of Adire Audio "Lastly, power handling isn't compromised by a factor of 2; it's usually decreased 10-25%. The reason is that rarely are you current-limited by the gauge of the wire, and voice coils are wound concentrically so you still have the entire thermal mass working for you. Just that now all the power is dissipated in a single voice coil (typically two of four layers) so you may end up with an inert, non-conducting thermal mass insulating one side of the voice coil. This does not halve power handling, but can reduce it somewhat." So yes still perfectly safe.... run it that way and if it blows PM me and I will buy you a new woofer!
