Guest MegaloManiac
hmm.. idk what to tell you lol. u could try this. turn your car on and while the car is running unplug the battery ground, and see if the car stays on or not(alty should take over)

audiofanaticz
just diconnected the groound car still runs. i dk what the problem is. batt light is still on Most cars have some sort of a plug that gets plugged into the alt. did you plug that in? maybe it isnt fully clipped in? maybe a wire on the harness became lose while disconnecting or connecting it to the new alt? fawd06
checked the plug took it out no loose wire what so ever..
str86diesel
I actually have the same problem with my Dodge. I swapped out my alternator with a bigger one and had the same issue (except I have a check gauges light that displays). I pulled out the plug and compared the alternators. I've got the issue where my stock alternator has an extra wire going back to the ECM. The replacement alternator fits the stock plug, but if you look at where the plug goes, the aftermarket alternator doesn't have a connection for this signal wire...errggg... So what sucks with my truck is that I am unable to replace my stocker (I've asked all over), instead I have to add a second, but don't have the space in my engine bay due to a fan shroud. So you might be having the same issue and be obligated to run off of a second one like me... Most newer cars have a voltage regulator that,in conjunction w/ ur cars computor, monitors system voltage. If you pull the 12v source (batt cable) you're rolling the dice w/ your electrical system. If you DON'T get lucky, the alternator will get so hot trying to make 14.4 volts when it should only have to make enough to compensate the 2volts over static charge (12.45-12-6v) it will wled it self into a big ball of metal internally. Megalo-you yourself said you're not a motor guy, I would not give you carputor advice since it's not my field, so if I were you, I would refrain from handing out advice on motors/electrical. Srry If me sayin so is being mean, but i get this all day at work and it's annoying as hell.
