Any Adverse Affect Of Mounting Sub In Port Wall?

Recommended Posts

I have been thinking of different designs. Is there any issues with mounting a subwoofer in the inside port wall facing the port? I know the velocity from the port would be directed across the face of the sub, would this cause cancellation? Or would it depend on volume of the port? I would like to do a blow through in my truck with either 2) 18's or 3)15"s. I was thinking around 10ft^3 with 190-200sq in of port.

Any input is appreciated.

it depends. but i think it might be a +. look at the hoopty its actually a 4th order bandpass, the space between the subs facing each other acts like a port.

i thought of a wall design with 12 10s, 9 on the front baffle, 3 on the side wall of the port ;).

If anything, it acts as a 6th order.

And it depends on the design man. Some ported clamshells use the port wall as a baffle and There are some other cases where it would work, but it all depends. Shoot a picture or draw it so we can see what you're thinking.

Basically yes.

But that'd kinda be like saying Steve Mick's box is just a Sealed box.

no, thats not what i mean, isnt fourth order when the middle acts as a port too (i know nothing about bandpass boxes) i asked steve and he told me in person that its basically just 2 ported boxes, each holding 4 18"s
