Setting Sub-sonic Freq (yes I Did A Search)

I have performed a search before posting this, and did read many posts, however not really finding the exact answer. Here is my question. I have a box tuned @ 34Hz, for the last few months i've had my sub-sonic frequency @ 35-40hz (Hard to tell, there is no # on the knob just it starts @ 15 ends @ 40Hz) I read a post here about 2 weeks ago that said you should set the subsonic @ 5-10HZ below your box tuning, so I did. I set it close to about 5-8Hz less, and that seemed to have made my subs hit harder, and with more definition. Am I hurting anything here? am I not practicing safe car audio by doing this....? Im just very confused at this point, and any insight would be great. Thanks

I love my staffie :good:

I have always heard that it is best to set it 5 to 10 less then your tuning and I have never hurt or bottomed out my subs

Subs are like titties, They need to come in pairs because ones and threes are just wrong, and larger amounts will always draw a crowd, we all have our favorite sizes, but the bigger ones are more fun to watch move. :D

Words to live by.

Depends on the slope but 5-10hz under tuning is generally fine. Just don't do burps at below tuning frequency :P
