Forevrbumpn Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 Well, I have had a headache with my electrical system in my Denali, lights flickering, voltage dropping to 11v with AC on, then turn on the beat, and drop to about 10V I asked around for alts, but just wasn't satisfied with the prices, and my budget wasnt $299-399 like it should have been( I know, you get what you pay for) So, I surfed, and surfed for alternator parts, and found a company that is pretty damn reliable, had a friend go thru them, so I tried them as well 1) Found a 140a, 200a and 240a rebuild kits for my cs144 alt- ordered the 240amp 2) ordered late Monday, received early Friday, so 3 business days to my house- STOKED!!!! 3) inspected parts, found the stator was dropped a little hard by USPS, and bent the stator to where the rotor would wobble and rub against the stator Pissed, called the guy, and he was pissed about the shipping to, but was pleased to do a claim against USPS, and ship me a new stator So, I took my alt off, took it apart, pretty simple, nothing to it (Ive rebuilt 2 alts before, but stock to stock, nothing upgraded) I tried the stator ofcourse, and rotor just rubbed, damn installed all other parts- Rectifier with upgraded Diodes, capacitor, regulator which is upgraded to stay stable at a higher voltage turned the truck on, and Wow, right off the bat, quick start with no lag in charging, no light flickering, turned the beat on, no dimming, turned AC on, and it was COLD!!! I was suprised about it being cold, because, well, I just assumed it needed refrigerant So anyways, for the most part, Iam happy, and I will be waiting on that stator for the 240amp upgrade to come in soon Stator that was dented^ upgraded rectifier ^stock 140amp vs after market 240amp damn, plus about 1-2lbs difference old guts, I dont know why I didnt take more pictures, like the new parts installed, and step by step, guess I was just pissed about the stator being bent, and kept trying to find ways to straighten it, which I did get it very straight from before And last, cant wait to get as many of these as possible from Got_Bass - Joey! I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
bobonit Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 Nice !! Do you mind sharing the company you went through? I have an old alternator on the shelf I wouldn't mind doing a rebuild on. 97 Maxima SE Bunch of shit going in, check out the build Build Log

Forevrbumpn Posted May 30, 2009 Author Report Posted May 30, 2009 I honestly don't know I would go to Autozone, or a kragens, and ask to see each alternator But more alts are swappable than people think, at least in older cars, usually just a simple bracket mod, or spacing, or pulley swap or ditch the AC or smog pump I have a ritual called "terminator". oldschool Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 I used them when I upgraded my alt and it works awesome but be careful if the stator is taller than the stock you will have to push the back bearing further in and install a couple of 1/4 washers behind the brush holder to compensate for the space difference I had to on mine.but afterwards I could tell a big difference at idle and high rpms TEAM GROUNDPOUNDERS INC. 156.5 OUT THE TRUNK OF A 95 CADDY W/1 SUB & 2AMPs score done on a termlab mic in the kick on the dash sealed was 154
Forevrbumpn Posted May 31, 2009 Author Report Posted May 31, 2009 How do you mean taller? overall OD, or lay flat on the windings? I have a new stator coming in I just had problems because the shipping damage But thanks for pointing that out about shimming the brushes, and the rear bearing I have a ritual called "terminator". oldschool Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 lay flat on the windings push the back bearing further in to keep the rotor stable and the washers on the brush holder to make contact if it is taller or both brushes will not make contact and it will not charge it took me a couple of times tearing it apart to figure out why it was not charging .
