Jville140db
I will soon be building a new enclosure for 6 0f the new 12in 5500 mtx squares and i am trying to decide on a port method I would like to see big numbers on the termlab. My question is what are the pros and cons of a kerfed port vs a standard slot vent vs flared round ports. I have used used both slotted and round flared. I have plenty of room to work with as it will be a wall but don't know which will yeild the best numbers. Thanks for any help Edited June 15, 2009 by Jville140db Quote Car is 2010 Scion Tc Currently in car Deck- Sony XAV-60 in-dash mobile video system Speakers- Rockford Punch 6.5in comps in the front and coax in the rear Subs- 2 Gen 3 Rockford P3 12's dual 4 ohm Amps- Rockford P1000-1bd and P400-4 Alpine Mrp-f300 is in for P400-4 which is out to service Wiring- all rockford nuff said Enclosure- Dual 12in custom box by SRQ Battery- Optima Yellow top with big 3 done Sound Damping- All Dynamat products 1-2 layers throughout with liner on top Link to my build log- http://down4sound.co...=newpost&t=5275 Link to my youtube- http://www.youtube.c...ser/Jville140db MECP Advanced CEA # 110531 BassBox 6 Pro for Box Building/Re audio box calculator If you can hear the passenger it aint loud enough!!!!!!! sundownz
I have heard aero-ports are best for SPL but I have done quite well with kerfed slot ports... 154s with a single 15" woofer. sundownz
nice what was the setup and did you radius both ends or just the end of the port One end is kerfed : Inside the corners have 1/4 pieces of 4" PVC in them - included the edge at the back of the port. The top of the port has a 1/2 piece of 4" PVC on it to create a similar effect to a flare - looks like this (picture is a different box but same thing): My box also has an incredibly large amount of port area... 96 in^2 for one 15" woofer. One NS 15" and two SAZ-3500Ds on 12v for 154.1 dB on the dash legal dB Drag style. Decaf
i have a feeling an entire kerfed box with a kerfed slot would yeild the highest numbers of all.... something like Thumpers designs but no 90 degree angles anywhere and rounded bracing think of extreme vehicles... they dont use aeroports... they use giant slot ports with pvc on the ports... leads me to think the same would apply for smaller boxes just a guess tho... on a side note, jebbus jacob ur ns is loud! ~7000w to a ~1500w sub, good work
