Frankenwagon build (Carputer,HID,more to come)

Recommended Posts

I would love to see some pics :D

i love g-bodys, i have a 84 2dr my self...

Picked up a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo for $14, 58 or 68% off I think it was.

Fucked up with the mobo though. I thought it had one IDE connector for my HDD...doesn't, only has 3 SATA II plugs. So I have to transfer all my files from my 160gb SATA in my PC to my 160gb IDE and then pull the SATA.

I'll be building the base of the case out of 1/2 MDF with rubber risers for the hardware, then it will be moulded in with the monitor and mounted under the dash and molded in. Sealed and color matched to the interior. SEM color coat Burgundy.

Pics of said car, it will be restored fully minus a small sound system and 22's. Just a nice daily driver. Re-painted stock GM silver with pinstripe, restored interior, rebuilt 260 V8.

Well, my computer crashed last night and didn't get it running again till today.

I did some on the base and got the mobo mounted. I'll be installing my bare xp pro shortly.

I installed it on my computer just to see how it performs.

On start up after loading at idle-

22 processes (17 before driver install for everything)

78mb of 4448mb memory commit charge

CPU 0-3%

Transferring 82 gb worth of files from HD to HD, running fire fox along with uploading pics.

23 Processes

267mb of 4448mb commit charge

Fluxuation between 35 and 48% cpu usage (touched 50 once)

With celeron D 3.3 ghz single core. 2.5gb wintech amp X dual channel, carputer has better hardware so we will see.

Still waiting on HID's. Should be here Friday or Monday.

Going to try and order a Memphis MCD4KW at the end of the month, then another with income tax.

Need some help though, I got the monitor set up and all, computer running, but I can't decided whether to paint the frame burgundy to match the interior, or fiberglass it to the bottom of the dash...the carputer will be in the glove box, plenty of room.

Here is what I'm working with.

You shoulda did a little more shopping around and found one with the woodgrain.

Ahahaha. Well....the thing is...this one was a woody

The wood grain on these were vinyl stickers. Which eventually peeled...luckily this one peeled before I got it!

Should be working on the monitor for the carputer tomorrow, and removing the glove box to mount the motherboard, hard drive etc...
