2 18"s Box Idea Update 7.20.09

This box was inspired by Steve's box when the Tahoe only had 1500 watts. Here is a SketchUp drawing i made earlier today along with a cardboard mock up of the box.

The outer dimensions are 57 X 26 X 24 the port is 8 X 18. There is 29 ft of 2x4 bracing the whole box is 3/4 MDF with a double baffle. the whole inside will have a 1/4" of fiberglass. after i do all my calculating it will be tuned to 27 or 29 hz (i haven't decided which one i want)

IMO good quality wood with strategic bracing is better than that maze of 2x4s i see :)

Also- i wouldn't be worried with .25" of glass on the walls

The mane reson for all the 2x4 and 1/4" of glass is I dont want any flex. Steve broke one of his motors/baskets from just a little flex.

Im gonna stick with 2x4 (just my opinion)

Oh all corners will be 45'ed with resin

Thanks bro

Unfortunately i wont be able to start on this till fall :censored:

IIRC its because he broke the screws and his subs were bouncin around and he puts an assload of power on them lol put 2 and 2 together and you come out with a broken motor.

you should be fine with resin and some dowels or 2x4's if you must.

how much power you puttin on what kind of subs and have you ever thought of doing maybe thicker MDF?

lol i used screws so big it made the circle the screws go in tear and become larger and still managed to break a screw, all the others are good tho...but with that box im sure you could smash it with a bus and be fine

For power ether 2 RF T4Ks or 4 RF T2500-1bd. So 10KW

2 Fi BTLs or 2 AA SMDs

I did think about thicker MDF but i think the 1/4" of glass will make up for it

do the 4 2500's I want to see the numbers on that lol you are most likely looking at close to 12k with that setup.

you could cut down a lot of bracing with 1" MDF and double baffle you will see no flex.

why BTL's with that much power though?

what is your plan electrical wise?
