cc_audio Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 not to thread jack but i also have a question that relates to this i have two audio pipe 12 inch subs and i guess one of them slid into something in the trunk and ripped the surround in a straight line from the cone to the screw hole on the speaker how would i go about fixing thisIs the surround rubber or foam? If its rubber, I have used inner tube/tire repair patches on the backside of the surround for more severe rips and tears and it works amazing everytime. Never tried it on a foam surround. Carefully spread the surround rip and apply a glue bead to the ripped edges and then realign the rip together. Wipe the excess away. Then apply the patch to the backside, trim to make it fit. This way keeps the front of the surround very clean so all you see is a crack. If its foam, or you don't want to apply a patch you can alway just use rubberized CA glue in the crack and apply a layer on the front and rear of the surround around the rip. This way is uglier but just as effective. Or buy a whole new surround to replace it. It's all gone! The Celica Build Feedback If I buy something from you, DO NOT USE FEDEX!

This might be what your after. Take some measurements of your current surround and see if this will replace it. There's a bunch of other sizes too. Ignantfi3d Posted July 3, 2009 Author Report Posted July 3, 2009 update: Took the plastic surround off and used the CA glue and glued back down the parts that came off. Damn near bonded 3 fingers together lol. Gonna let it dry till tomorrow and go around the edge one more time with the glue to make sure it makes a nice seal. I accidently cracked the black plastic trim piece when I was taking it off, made a nice clean break tho. Gonna glue that back together, sand the area of the break down, and color match it to my car. One last question, before I put the trim back on, would it be wise to run a small bead of black rtv around the edge to seal it all up? 1996 Vw Jetta Crunch 1500watt 1- Kicker 15" L7 @ 1ohm in a 4cu. ft. Ported Enclosure Tuned to 32Hz. 4- 6.5" Menace Door Speakers & 2- Menace super tweeters in the dash 139.11db @ 40hz (6/2010..old amp setup)

Just an update, I used this said "CA Glue" and have not a problem since. Holds hella strong too. I've been pounding the shit out of the L7 since I repaired it myself and put it in the new enclosure.
