The only thing about welding is that the bed and cab are separate and as the chassis flexes/twists the cab and bed twist independent of each other.. Oh well could work just fine, his truck he can do what he wants! He can do seam sealer and some sheet metal but the boot is the number one way to do it. I know people who have had a boot for more then ten years with no leaks. edit...
