Start Building Tom- Need Advice on Port

If youve seen any of my previous topics, my setup is in the trunk with like 5 cubes for 4 twelves def cramp, def alot of rattle, and my first box = def crap. So Im rebuilding and this go around, I realized I almost never need my back seat so Im taking it out and building there. Now Im no expert, and my tools are basic but good enough. I don't want a wall so no wall it is. My max dimensions are 49"Wx18"Hx21"D (8.84 Cubes Internal). Any way the sides of the box are right up against the car, this is also true for the back of the box and obviously the bottom. My only "Open" services are the front of the box and the top of the box. The four subs will not fit on the front wall which is (49"x18") Ill show this with my sketch. I have taken into account the thickness of the MDF as I dont think it would be a good idea to put mounting screws for the subs into the containing walls of the box. So the only possible mounting service for the subs is the top of the box. The remaining question is what about the port? I was talking to a friend of mine and he suggests about 100 Sq In of port for this setup. Now subs up port back would be nice but there is no room. So its either subs and port up or subs up port forward. Obviously the are aero ports but for the sake of my question lets ignore them. Ill post my sketch ups.

As always any and all feedback is greatly appreciated,

P4Killer.

-> Also I realize farther over towards driver side would be louder on the mic, but with the port on one end, two subs would be close if not right in back of the port, and two far away. This causes "loading issues" no? I this really worth worrying about?

How much power an what kind of subs are you using?

If you are using 100 square inches for 5 cubes, then that is going to be a loooong port. Unless you're using a huge amount of power, then you need to reduce the size of your port.

As is my sig, im running a 3000D

and the plan is for 8.84 Cubes

5 cubes is the old cramped starving for air setup i have in the trunk.

I would do four 4 inch aero ports because they take up the least amount of port displacement.

If you build it, db's will come...

NSPL World Record Holder Trunk 0-1800 watts---147.9 with 1722 clamped watts @ 40Hz(9-20-09).

Competition Only Record Holder Trunk 0-500 watts---148.1

Aero Ports. Ok but Forward or Up...

Since your box is going to be so long, I would consider putting it on the side so as to facilitate a straight port. Anytime you have to curve a port, you add a bunch of resistance to the air moving inside; thereby compromising your port efficiency.

Again, the sides, rear, and of course the bottom of the enclosure will be pretty much blocked by the car aka will be right up against a wall effectively blocking the port which gives me a 8+ cube sealed box...

Ill double check things in the morning to make sure there are no alternatives but for now it looks like port UP (on the top of enclosure) or port FORWARD on the forward face of the enclosure. I cant do anything along the bottom of the box as a 49" long port = no good. I really dont mean to be difficult, but besides aero ports which i dont want to do (because of high cost or alot of work to do it cheaply), I think I have covered the bases and narrowed things down

NO Side Ports

NO Rear Ports

The port obvi cant go where the subs are

A port running the legnth of the entire box doesnt work either the ratio of legnth to height would be way off

what ever shall I do?

i think subs up port forward will work best...also dont use the full 8 cubes, bring it down to at least 7 or less...and about 80 sq" port, no more than that.
