Got noise in your system? Look here!

Recommended Posts

Not a myth. Ever hear of an electromagnet? That's what happens when you run power through a wire, it forms a magnetic shield around the wire. My dad has a fork truck that uses 3 12 volt batteries in parallel while just normal use, and 36 volts in series when the forktruck was lifting up and down, tilt in and out. When it hit 36 volts, the wires had a ton of amperage going to them, and became magnetic. High power systems have high amperage going through them, and EMI. Unshielded RCAs will pick it up.

Absolutely. You want your power and signal away from each other.

Any chance of getting this as a sticky?

Here's a good one. If for some really stupid reason you cannot find a way to run RCA's and power wires away from each other or they have to cross paths at some point, make sure they cross at right (90 degree) angles. It won't completely eliminate noise, but will reduce it quite a lot.

My comp setup (Not bad for what it is):

HP Compaq Presario V6120US laptop with:

15.4" widescreen

AMD Turion 64 X2 1.6GHz processor

2x1GB stick DDR2 SDRAM (667 Mhz)

Seagate Momentus 500GB SATA HDD

128MB shared video memory

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

12 cell Lithium Ion battery (actual battery usage time: 6 hours)

Absolutely. Running signal and power perpendicular from one another if you can't separate is key.
