sully Posted August 7, 2009 Report Share Posted August 7, 2009 If you've still got a clutch fan then it makes sense that the voltage drops when it engages. It draws HP from the extra resistance on the crank pulley, this can cause the belt to slip slightly if it is older and cause a momentary drop in voltage from the alt. I would get a smaller pulley on the alt and put a new belt on the car before doing anything else to see if it fixes the problem. Next step is the big 3, then alternator and batteries. Torres Posted August 7, 2009 Report Share Posted August 7, 2009 I wouldnt bother doing the big 3 without upgrading your alternator...Either way your stock alt isnt gona take the beating for long... on the contrary...i read from an engineer or mechanic or someone (very knowledgeable regardless) that said doing the big 3 is a great idea regardless. sound system or no sound system. it allows for more current flow and he said afterwards when he did it everything in his car would just run smoother. air conditioner ran cooler, etc. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
