Hey SMD! Got a question. Im helping to put in a moddest system in my neighbors car which consists of just a pioneer cd player, amp and subs. He has two Pioneer Premier Champion series 12's which are rated at 4-ohm DVC each at 400-rms each and he has an Alpine MRP-M850 amp which is rated at 800-watts 2-ohm and 500 watts 4-ohm. How can i wire these babies up to get that 800 watts or will he have waisted money and have to get another amp? Please help!!!

Two dual 4 ohm subs can only be wired to one ohm or 4 ohms. Sorry, but 2 ohms aint gonna happen.

I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure you can only wire it up to show the amp either a 4ohm load or 1ohm, but I don't think that amp is stable down to 1ohm. Someone correct me I'm wrong though.

yeah i believe its only 2-ohm stable, just needed a second opinion. and i know he doesnt want to live with a measly 250 watts a sub!! you think if i put just one 12 on it and get it to 2ohms, will the 800 watts blow the sub up? its only rated at 400 watts. or did he just blow his cash on false hopes?

If he just bought the subs, and they're not even used yet, just have him exchange them for the dual 2ohm models and then the amp can be wired down to 2ohms.

2 subs on 500 should be louder than one sub on 800 anyway..

you could wire it down to 1 ohm for a few days and see if it gets too hot or not. your may have impedence rise that takes out above 2 ohms.
