fritosaregood Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 I build a box a while back and messed it up and ended up having it tuned to 22hz, which happend to also be the Fs of my audiopuse axis sub. That turned out to be one of the best boxes i had built. but im not exactly sure why. Im about to do another build and thought about tuning the the fs of the sub again since that last box was so good, It got a 140.1 at 25hz and a 144.1 at 41hz. so i guess the question is, does tuning a box to the Fs of the sub have any benefit other that just a flatter response? seller feedback: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=61719 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=68281 build log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?showtopic=44800 Gf's build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/54346-kickergirls-camaro-new-box-pg-5/#entry753970
ISO Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 I'm interested in this question too. I always use sealed enclosures and designing ported enclosures are my weak point. Isobaric - Refers to the practice of coupling two drivers together to make them act as one. "Giving up doesn't always mean you are weak; sometimes it means that you are strong enough to let go." Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The Destruction of a person builds character.
Ben Building Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 I have a legendary box for 2 (don't laugh) Lanzar Optidrive 1232Ds that won't go away because it sounds incredible. It is tuned to 22Hz but the subs resonate at 26 and 28Hz brand new. The lows with this enclosure are amazing, but that's the point here. A sub has its most energetic response at its resonant freq. If you design the enclosure to resonate at or around this frequency, then you have the potential for a very efficient, if not peaky, subwoofer enclosure.
Eric B Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 doesnt the fs change after break in? 2007 Chevy HHR LT UNDER CONSTRUCTION 1st Place Loud N Low 2010 MWSPL Finals 3rd Place Xtreme 3 2010 MWSPL Finals
Ben Building Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 doesnt the fs change after break in? It sure does. The sub has more compliance as the spider(s) soften from use. Since this (mechanical) compliance is one of the two components of subwoofer damping ("Q") the response of the sub will change too once it's inside the enclosure.
matt402 Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 i tuned a 12" kicker cvr to 22hz, that bish broke my taillight .

fritosaregood Posted August 27, 2009 Author Report Posted August 27, 2009 Im about to ditch my 2 15" setup for my single 15 in the 22hz box for a while. Then build another 22hz box thats bigger, the one i have now is 2 cubes. thanks for a little explanation on it. seller feedback: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=61719 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=68281 build log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?showtopic=44800 Gf's build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/54346-kickergirls-camaro-new-box-pg-5/#entry753970
