zack74562 Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 i was wondering if my alternator has anything to do with my car completely crashing out on me? is it to powerful for my car? i have toyota camry 05 le 2.4 cyln. running 1 13w7 sub, 1000 1v2 amp, 1- focal k3p set, and 1-t8004 amp with 3 250A fuses and 2 batteries. i have the alternator installed as told from the instructions that came with my alternator. yesterday my car was acting up and i noticed that the warning break lights were on had my music on at the time and it sucked because i don't know what was going on, my components ust shut off on me but the sub was still playing. i turned off my car to see if the break lights was gonna disapear and my car couldn't start up so i waited like 5minutes and it ended up starting but only the sub was working. after driving about 10 miles my whole car ust died out. the pannel was flashing and when i was going up hill the gas pedel was making the car go slower and the breaks was getting tighter. does the alternator have anything to do with it?
Soulman07 Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Doubt it, unless there is a short somewhere. Sounds like it could be more along the lines of a loose ground than anything. As far as the gas pedal situation goes.. That just doesn't make sense to me, I'd look into the ground first. Your alternator isn't going to make your car go haywire like that though. I haven't experienced anything or heard of any such thing within my 5.5 years 1993 Chevrolet SWB Pickup Viper 791XV Primer Stage 5/8 Static Drop Kinetik HC1800 Big 3 Knu Flex 0 Team Tex Flex
bobonit Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Check your belt for slipping. When you put a load on that alt, it makes it harder to turn and it could be slipping, causing it not to charge and you may have drained your batteries and your engine didn't have enough juice to run. 97 Maxima SE Bunch of shit going in, check out the build Build Log
tejcurrent Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Check your belt for slipping. When you put a load on that alt, it makes it harder to turn and it could be slipping, causing it not to charge and you may have drained your batteries and your engine didn't have enough juice to run. ^This. If your alt is not powerful enough or your belt is slipping you may discharge your battery. I had a belt break and by the time I drove 1/4 mile to the next place to pull over my vehicle was overheating and driving like a chunk of lead. What alternator and h/u do you have? Also you should not be using 250a fuses for < 200a of total current draw imo, it isn't protecting your equipment that way. It could be totally unrelated to your alt but I'd check things out. tejcurrent XS Power T3
zack74562 Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 i have 250A rhino alternator running with two xspower batteries (1-d2400 & 1-d2700) i have 3-250A fuses (one in the front of the car and two for the back for 2-amplifiers. JVC cd deck (only has two rca's connecters. all are sharing signals.) 1-Jl 13w7 1-Jl 1000 1v2 1-rockford t800-4 1-focal k3p component set 400max power i'm going to upgrade my deck soon. but i want to know what's the problem with my alternator or whatever reason why my batteries are dropping volts i want to know everything that needs to be done to resolve problem's like this. maybe i have to charge the batteries again but then again i'll look at it again in the morning. i'll check the belt well i'll ust put a new one in. and i'll see from there. thanks a lot
tejcurrent Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 If you want to protect the amps you should really have around 100a fuse going to each amp, though that's not really causing your problems. With that alternator and batteries I wouldn't expect any real drop, but you might want to get the alt checked anyway. Could be wiring issues you might want to double check too. When my voltage dips too low my Alpine deck messes up in a way so that only the subwoofer output still works till I reset the unit. I have a 4ch amp running, so both internal and rca outputs stop working. That's with like 13v drops. I would start by checking your voltage cold, then after driving for a while and see what it looks like. If it looks good turn up your a/c, high beams + blinkers and see what happens. If it's still good then turn your stereo up slowly and see if it supports it. Good luck tejcurrent XS Power T3
BulletInjection Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 sounds like a dead battery, you are running a dry cell correct? If not your excessive current from your new alternator is bad for the battery if it it not a dry cell and can cause it to leak or explode My build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...8920&st=100 http://www.youtube.com/Bulletinjection

Good luck i have three 250 A Fuses 1- in the front and 2 in the back for two of my amps. i checked on all the wires it seems to be on good. with the two batteries and 250a alternator, it's still makes my lights dim. would this mean i need a farad cap on there. in the beginning before i put the batteries in they were tested at 12.5. after a few days putting alternator and batteries in and running it was at 13.6 now that it's been a month now of having them, my car died out completely a few days ago and had to get it towed home.my car couldn't start at all. tested the batteries when i got home and they were at 10.4. i charged both batteries overnight and my car was up and running. the batteries started at 13.3 after having it in there and warming it up then driving it around the volt's been dropping. slowly dropped down to 12.9 to 12.3 there's one thing that i didn't ground to the body which is the one from the car that's near battery\.the alternator is grounded. it won't reach but i didn't think i needed to wire it up. i made sure all the wires were lock tight
