You also have to remember the horn effect. Night shade is correct with port displacement. People love 45 corners and yes I will say they work but something that works better is a reverse arch how it's done is with sonotube you can use 4 or 8in example l) = wrong l( = right people might say this doesn't work but try it, Just remember sharp corners kill db's smooth corners gives you db's. More power can give you more all around sound but if the port isn't very very close or spot on your will hurt yourself more than you help what i mean is if the port is to small that puts more pressure on the cone than your port can displace which will give you more back pressure than sub can take and it will heat up and get the glue to hot and the cone will come apart from the coil. Now with the port to big it's pretty short and simple the sub can just do what it want's because it doesn't have enough back pressure and it will bottom out and freeze. It's a ratio (box, port and power). boxes tuned right with the right math or ratio can give you 5 to 9 hz difference either way most people use a 7:1 ratio that will give you about 3 + or -, 8:1 about the same little more on the low side, now were it gets harry is 6:1 or 5:1 that's were things can go wrong quick like real bad port noise, but if done correctly you can get up to 5 to 9 hz up or down but you have to kick back on the power a little. I hope it helps.

Again you guys are welcome. This thread alone has increased my pm's by quite a bit. I don't mind at all, it will just take me a little bit longer to get back to you guys since I'm trying to help everyone out right now.

would one sub in a bigger box sound better than 2 subs in a smaller box? both boxs ported?

edit: n i wanna kinda learn how to build one myself, re calc doesnt really help me much tho, but if my subs freq respoce goes from 19.5htz to 130 what do i tune it to? i thought u tuned a box close to the fs of the speaker, n were mine is 23htz i unno

I don't understand the ratio 7to1 8to1 what is that, port to box or port to power. And thank's for all the info in this thread it has helped. :clapping:

Where at in the NC are you? I wouldn't mind getting together with you and teaching you some of my methods. As far as price send me a pm and we can talk about it. To answer your question about the subs, if you have enough room for a proper box then the 2 sub setup is the way to go. Do you have at least 4 cubes or so to work with? The 4 cubes is more of the external dimension, not the internal. I can definately help you out, and I'd like to do a 2 sub setup instead of 1. You will be sad with only one and want to add another one anyway. Besides things are always better in pairs.

Also to answer the 8:1, 7:1 question that is the port ratio. It is the ratio between the height and the width of a port. For example you have a port that is 12" tall and 2" wide, that would be a 6:1 ratio since both numbers are divisable by 2 you get a 6:1. Another example is say you have a port that is 20" tall and 5" wide, that would be a 4:1 ratio. Do you understand now?

A ratio is noting more than a fraction basic math.
