Getting New Sub Fi Ssd18

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone i currently got the Rockford P1 15 right now and as you all know im upgrading soon. Well i got the ok from my parents to order it anytime after the 26th of this month. So i decided that im going to go with the Fi SSD18. 239$ seems very resonible and im sure i wont be dissapointed lol. I will be running 770 watts RMS to it. I will have to make my first box ever. So im kind of nervous. This may be a long process but i hope to have everything done within a week. I will be building the box at my grandpas boat yard. Just thought ide let everyone know whats going down and i CANT WAIT. I will be getting the Dual 1 ohm version and be wiring it to 2 ohms. My dad is buying my 15 and the box off me for 150$ thats 50$ more then what i payed for it lol. So that will help with the new purchase. Im looking to make a very simple box about 6.5 cubs and tuned to 31-33hz. I dont have very much room to work with as you all know. If anyone has any pointers or advice for me please do tell.

Should i go ported or sealed since i have such a small area to work with. I think a sealed would be good for me to learn on and then make a ported later in summer. What do you guys think ??

I'd say go ported! but hey, either way you'll still get a good bump in the trunk! =D

Congrats on the SSD!! =D

I think lots of people are upgrading to the Fi subs!! =D

I think, as a fist time box builder, you could go sealed.. But really, its not difficult to build a ported box. Just look around the forums for simple ideas, and just run up the specs on it and stuff..

See.. I want the BL 18" but.... its pretty pricey, i could get the 15" BL for 280, i'd love to have an 18" i might even just save up for it! =D lol..

I hope you love your system man!! Cant wait!!! I'm excited for you too!!!

Thanks man i Cant wait. I just went out and did some measurments. I can go 15" deep and 30" wide and 24" tall. Im sketching up some ideas. I may start on the box somtime soon and that way it will be all ready wen i order the sub.

what direction is your sub going? facing up? (hatchback..)

Its facing back. Now i got the dimensions. Im going to go sealed for this box only because of the amount of room i have to play with and skill. Me and my dad are sititng here figuring it out. Is 5.72 Ft3 enough for this sub sealed??

Also can i go facing upwards. Ive always heard facing back sounds best and my 15 pounds facing to the rear.

The dimensions i have so far are 30 inches wide , by 22 inches tall by 15 inches deep.

sorry for asking so many questions guys were trying to figure this out tonight. May be able to start tommorow or monday. 30x20x15= 5.2ft3.

Does that sound about right ?? for a sealed.

i dont know a whole lot about the specks of tuning boxes, but, check with SSD 18 specks and see what cubes they recommend and try to aim around there.

Facing rear is nice way to go, Facing up would also be nice, either way will work really. you can try it out both ways if your able to rotate the box when its in the trunk..

Good luck on building! =D

Post up the Build!
