Heya dudes, just a quick question im running a couple of 12" subs and was just wondering what size speaker wire would be best, im runnin 16awg atm and im thinkin thats probably too small. Any suggestions on what size to run? Cheers.

My Set-up ATM. [Well my first]

HU: Kenwood MP543U.

Amps: 2 x Kenwood KAC 8104D @ 2 ohm - 1000Rms + Kicker ZX350.4 Channel @ 4 ohm - 60Rms x 4.

Subs: 2 x Kenwood 12" W3012 Dual Coil @ 2 ohm - 800Rms.

Highs & Mids: Front: 2 x Rockford Fosgate 6" 3 ways - Rear: 2 x Clarion 6" 3 ways [Yeah mixed bag atm lol gotta save$$$]

Batt: 610 CCA.

Alt: 150 Amps.

Cap: Soundstream 4 Farad.

Wiring: 4 AWG from batt, 4 AWG from cap to amps, 8 AWG ground - 16 AWG speaker wire all round.

that will work fine. im running 12awg to my current set, and my new set is seeing 8awg.

overkill isnt bad :D

Fair enough I might russel up some 12awg and give that a whirl then and c if it makes any diff, cheers for a quick reply.

yep no problem.

the larger the wire, the less resistance. all that means is that you will get a better power transfer with the larger wire.

its not important to upgrade, but if you do, you might notice a difference

i got 8guage actual speaker wire from mobil electronics n i was wondering, if my subs take 8guage n my amp takes 8 how do i combine it at the amp? i got 12guage in tehre now but i got about 10ft of 10guage speakerwire n i can get all i want of 8guage speaker wire tho, but the guy sells it for $3 a foot due to it being speaker wire

but it goes a lil more to do with power ur feedin it

reducers, or just run it to a d block/bolt on the box and run it with some 8 gauge or larger if ur really worried about power loss.

i run 8ga but wouldn't go smaller than 12ga

2-DC 15XLM2 D.7s

1-DC 5K amp

(1) XS Power D6500(UNDERHOOD) and (1) XS3000(REAR)

3 runs 1/0ga for power and 2 runs of 1/0ga for negative.

(2)-RFT165s components, ...... 4 separate 1 inch tweetersRF T600-2(fronts) Punch 450.4(rear)

Audiocontrol 3.1.

DC power 260amp alternator w/MLA Module
