Buffing buss bars

Is it neccesary? I've seen Steve do it on his rebuild video, also seen that Van with the 12 18's do it. Is there a reason? Better conductivity? Asking cause I can get some Aluminum bars tomorrow for free, that I can use as buss bars. Also is there a certain type of aluminum that I have to use?

Aluminium gets a very fine coat of oxide on the outside of it. It's probably worthwhile giving it a quick rub with some fine sandpaper just to be sure you have a good connection.

x2. Just give it a good rub down with some fine grit to clean it off. Once you have your connections on, the parts of the bars that are still exposed will tarnish again, but don't worry about that unless you want them to look pretty.

Copper can sometimes get a little oxidation, or they might have a little grease on the outside of it. Give it a quick shine as well.
