Destram
Alright, so I'm rolling in a 2003 Chevrolet Xtreme Blazer. I'm finishing up my system. Four RE Audio SE-XXX 15s, two US Amps MD3D amps, second Optima red top battery, etc. I was going to get my alternator beefed up to around 150 amps, but I was told by a place around here that works on them that my stock alternator can't be beefed up anymore. So, here I am. I have a batter isolator and a switch to turn it on/off to have the alternator charge the second battery when I need it. Do you think my alternator can handle this system or will I need to shell out the money for another, higher output alternator? I know which would be the better option, but that's not what I'm asking. I want to know if my alternator can handle it sufficiently. Destram
That's what I was thinking. I had two JL 15s and a 3000w Earthquake amp in my old truck, and they killed the alternator. I just don't want to shell out ~$400 for an HO alternator. Guest
take that battery isolator out, it will just cut your short alternator's life even shorter. you need a WAY bigger alternator. stock wont cut it for those 2 huge amps. find the biggest alternator you can for your car (i recommend DC Power) and install it. trappin859
You spent what, $5000+ on subs and amps but you won't shell out an extra $4-600 to make sure that high end equipment performs at its best? Destram
Man, that sucks. Those things are super expensive. Edit: I've spent about $2k so far, and that was spread out over several months. Destram
Greg at US Amps hooked me up. I'm just gonna go ahead and finish putting the system in and save up for a new alternator. Hopefully I can buy one before this system kills my stock one. I had an MD3D on my old set-up at 1/2 ohm and it rocked for about 15 seconds, then I watched my stock Alt. start to smoke. It's worth every penny. Quote C.A.R.
