Marlo Stanfield Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Go by AQ specs if they are listed on their site. But something like 4ft3 @ 37hz w/ 50sq in of port.... How much power are u running though?? the only reason i dont want to tune that high is cuz i play low music in the 20's and low 30's lol and i still want it to hit those low notes with bottoming out... and i have an AQ 2200... so i can run more then rms which i've seen them take and i will be tuning the amp properly so it will be clean power also im getting the copper coil. and for port area i was think 50-60aq in or port Suburban Coming Soon

Unless you want a 2ft long port. We recently chucked a DD 3515 (pretty similar sub) in a 4 cube box, 60 inches of port tuned to ~37hz and it SLAMMED, don't know about sub-35hz but it only had 1200w on it and it went very very well. 10.x volts fo' life!

ben29555 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 if your playing alota real low notes i would tune at 30 or 32 i just dont think that tuning at 34-35 is gunna give you the results you want i have a level 4 18 tuned to 32 hz but my sub displacement wasn't accounted for so my tuning raised some and i wish i would have been able to subtract the displacement or tune it to 30hz because it dosn't go quite as low as id like My Build Log loud bass songs
Soulman07 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I tuned to 34hz with my box for the 12's in copper. Around 2 cubes per sub and 3k per. I only have about 66 sq inches of port area total... It plays really well musically. I have my subsonic at around 26hz... It still dumps pretty low, not as low as I'd like to though. PM DJ an he'll give you the ideal tuning options, if I remember correctly he said have at least 12-14 inches of port area per cubic feet of the box... Don't quote me on that one though, but I believe that's what I was told. So ideally 48-56 sq inches would be fine. He also said they'll play around 10hz below box tuning and get warm. I don't have a problem with them getting warm at all, tuning @ 36-38hz is what he recommended as well. 1993 Chevrolet SWB Pickup Viper 791XV Primer Stage 5/8 Static Drop Kinetik HC1800 Big 3 Knu Flex 0 Team Tex Flex

With the HDC3s tune like 34hz and it will be able to pick up anything you throw at it, but you can't expect it to be as loud at 28hz as it is at 40hz. For a good overall daily setup you'll want it to be able to do well all the way from like 25hz - 60hz or so, it's all about balancing it out or being willing to give up one or another. So a finished product would be in the neighborhood of 4.25ft3 @ 34hz w/ 55sq in of port. 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer... New setup, old ride... QX56 is staying stock til I get loud...
