CFAIST
Hi all I was atempting to do the big three today on my 03 Focus ZX4 Got the ground to body. and ground to engine with no problems. I got lazy by this time and tried to do the Alt. to battery while it was still hooked up to power. Needless to say It grounded out. I heard a POP down in the starter/ALtenator area. It stated back up fine ater that but wasn't charging If I moved the wires On the alt it would start charging then Stop. I shut it off and reattached the factory wire from the alt and now nothing. Ive got full power to everything but It just Clicks. Could it be the Starter died from this. Never had this problem before. Please help!! Edited October 25, 2009 by CFAIST Quote C.A.R. TeamNemesis_Jessie
Check The Wire To Alt It Maybe Grounded Out There (It May Be Grounded Out On The Alt Case) Edited October 25, 2009 by jessiew
Nightshade
I have an 01 ZX3 and I'm not sure how similar these two are but I was messing around with the alt and didn't tighten the nut up enough and the alt wasn't charging. I got back under the hood and tightened the shit out of it and it started to charge again. It wasn't making a good contact so it wasn't charging. Maybe you need to check it again to make sure you put the wire back on tight enough. skittlesRgood
well if it gounds out through something it could have fried it. the socket wrench hit my wiper arms when i was taking off my alt + and it fried my wiper motor. so look whats attached to the spot that the wire touched and see if you can trace what might have fried. CFAIST
I've got it on the charger right now, to see if the batt. just got that drained, It reads 12.49v without a load on it but when I try to start it it drops down to 6.8-9volts. Hopefulley that is all my starting problem is. if it starts in a while I'm gonna try an tighten the alt connection up to make it charge. thanks for the input guys. Quote C.A.R. t-money
had the same problem on my 02. the factory wire coming off the battery that is 2 runs of 8 ine supplys the starter with power. so run your 1/0 from your alt to your batt. then cap off the factory wire on the alt side. then reattach the factory ring that has the 2 runs of 8 ant it will charge and start fine Quote 2002 ford focus hatch pioneer DEH-P8400bh infinity kappa 6.5 components front and rear XS Power D1200 Shuriken BT-100 audioque 120.4 2 15 inch audioque HDC3 D2 2 audioque 2200d big 3 mechman 220a alt with external regulator 479-418-3056
CFAIST
Well, I went back out this morning and my Charger was off, and the car was DEAD! So I checked the batt. with my DMM and it read 13.56 Volts. So I dug out my ariginal Battery which is tiny and tested it it read 11.49 Volts I figured what the hell maybe It smoked a cell in my Big battery. I installed my original and the car fires right up. Still has the battery light on like it's not charging. Don'tknow WTF? did I smoke the voltage regulator in my Alt? or just dont have a good enough connection. While it's running it doesn't drop voltage like it was but it doesn't read like it's charging. Quote C.A.R.
