milesmiles
I have a 10" JL-Audio 150 watt in my home (running at about 240 watts). As of late, I've noticed that on frequencies below 40 or so (i.e. Jeezy songs), the subwoofer makes a weird kind of growling sound. It seems to be moving just fine, and it works perfectly above all those frequencies. Is there a term for this? Bottoming out or something? Anything I can do to solve it? If ported, lowering the tuning frequency would help solve the problem. Worse case scenario, the sub is starting to go. treoslapper
it depends , if the box is sealed then yes your sub is probably bottoming out. if its ported it is below the freq that the box is at 94' jimmy stock alt, big three stinger sp1000 batt two treo rsx 1900 monoblocks strapped rockford fosgate 600.2 for mids and high focal access components in rear alpine type s front soundstream highs treo ssx 12 dual 1 ohm in 3.3 cube foot box

Nirvalica
i don't think it's bottoming out. But if I just started happening, I'm not sure. I think what you're saying is like when a cheap sub is trying to play low notes that it can't quite handle. Like a sony xplod trying to play the low notes on put on or something. kirill007
Bottoming out, doesn't depends on the sub, it depends of the box design. At what frequency is it tuned to if it's a ported box? Or is at sealed box? Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
