1992Chevy K1500
I'm kinda in a hurry so: My copy of windows arrived with both the 32 and 64 bit versions. I have a Compaq Presario V6120US with upgraded 2 GB memory and 500 GB HDD. Which should I use? 32 or 64 bit? Thanks in advance! tejcurrent
I would do 32 just because I've had a few software compatibility issues with 64. Other than that 64 is supposed to be better if your system can take advantage of it. Quote tejcurrent XS Power T3

Firefox, some video editor (forget the name), audio editor (Roxio Music lab 9 for now), Itunes, and plan on trying my hand at Photoshop if I get the money. I don't know whether my comp came with 64 bit or 32. I got a free upgrade to Vista when it came out (HP just sent me one, dunno why; my comp was designated Vista compatible). Does anyone know? Herrie_V
The main differences between the 32-bit versions of Windows Vista and the 64-bit versions of Windows Vista relate to memory accessibility, memory management, and enhanced security features. The security features that are available in the 64-bit versions of Windows Vista include the following: * Kernel Patch Protection * Support for hardware-backed Data Execution Protection (DEP) * Mandatory driver signing * Removal of support for 32-bit drivers * Removal of the 16-bit subsystem One of the greatest advantages of using a 64-bit version of Windows Vista is the ability to access physical memory (RAM) that is above the 4-gigabyte (GB) range. This physical memory is not addressable by 32-bit versions of Windows Vista. Depending on the version of Windows Vista that is installed, a 64-bit version of Windows Vista supports from 1 GB of RAM to more than 128 GB of RAM. The ability to address more physical memory lets Windows Vista minimize the time that is required to swap processes in and out of physical memory. Therefore, Windows Vista can manage processes more efficiently. This memory management feature helps improve the overall performance of Windows Vista. Advantages when you install a 64-bit version of Windows Vista * Increased memory support beyond that of the 4-GB addressable memory space that is available in a 32-bit operating system * Increased program performance for programs that are written to take advantage of a 64-bit operating system * Enhanced security features
1992Chevy K1500
Thanks for the info Herrie. According to wht I've found, my processor (AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-50) is a 64 bit. Do you think I'll be alright with only 2 gigs of memory? Also, according to wht I found, my MOBO only supports 2 GB's of RAM. But could it support more for a future upgrade? (Like way later in the future). sayhuh?
my guess is its windows 7? I'd go 64 bit personally. Most everything out there will run 64 bit now. (most) No to your MOBO..it will only support what it says. Also keep in mind that if you switch out mobo in the future you won't be able to use your OS key again. Edited October 27, 2009 by sayhuh? But HP said my MOBO would only support 2 GB's, I never found info on the MOBO itself other than that. OHHH, and yeah, it's Windows 7. Sorry I forgot to mention that. Yea I found out the hard way about changing MBs and OS systems...at least this is what MS told me when I couldn't install it on to my new computer. I thought you would just have to do a fresh install but it wouldn't let me activate.. I told them the other mb was fried and needed a new one. LoL fuckers. Edited October 27, 2009 by sayhuh? Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll give out just as Microsoft releases it's next OS. Then I can just upgrade again. I plan on having this comp till after my freshman year of college (or whenever I have money to build my own). Anyway, I'm installing now (I'm at 1% ) and can't wait. I'm excited to finally have my comp again. And thanks to all those who helped me!
