Sub quantity vs port area

when i ran no-wall, i had to sacrfice port area to fit the 18's in because even though i could get more port area with fifteens, it was still louder with the 18's. However, port area should be based on box size, box sized is based on woofer size and quantity; therforethere is a direct relation between woofer quantity and size to port area. Another piece to the puzzle is what your goal is. If you wanna play music, you should go with a more standard "rule of thumb" for port area. If you are going for pure spl, you make the port as big as you can regarless of all else (atleast with walls).

another tid bit, 2 euro vehicles did over a 169 with 2 woofers in SS 1-2. That is absolutely amazing. SS1-2, SS 3-4, and SS 5+ numbers are all relativley close, as are most of the Street A,B,C numbers. With this in mind, realize that the BUILD QUALITY TRUMPS ALL

the extreme vehicles are like air tight. i also believe alan did 170+ on 50 watts a rumor had it.

Volumes and port areas have to be adjusted with more or less cone area in an extreme vechicle. 0.1 db at 180db = 1 db at 170db if that makes sence. 0.1db at 180`s is hard work, believe me. Cone area does mater in an extreme vechicle. If 1 more sub gains 0.1 at 180`s, it might be something to look into. At a certen point tho cone area and power is limited in spl, due to system compression, even if volumes and port areas are compasated for it.

Every one who is doing 180 db plus works very, very hard on there install.

imo if you want it loud go with port area, if you want a system to play music all day, go for cone area, even tho it wont be as loud, but will naturally be tuned lower.

Sorry, the 170+ at 50 watts. But being air tight is true or as best we can to being air tight. We just spent over a month tweaking our doors to get them better.

in spl you can through all logic out the window technically lol..............

In my testing in my crx ive tried dozens of port sizes and lengths it came down to 2 6 inch aeros and i never had to mess with lengths EVER again once i stumbled on where it liked the ports to be cuz everytime i put them there it was loudest no matter what. Which was ALWAYs 4.5inches out side the box and the rest inside far enough to be directly underneath the furthest back woofer.

all boils down to testing what your vehicle responds to best
