Weird squealing noise from battery??

Recommended Posts

Sorry guys about all the questions ive had lately but i have an ass load of them, Im like a sponge just soaking up as much info as i can. This question is weird tho. Ok, the kinetik 1800 i bought from my friend has been in my car (in the rear) for the past couple days and i kno for sure its not running properly, because it wont start my car. Volts on it have been 14 at idle, 13.8-14.3 while cruising. Ive seen it drop down to 13.5 before while cruising and i kno volts jumping up and down isnt good. Well i took it out threw it on the charger about 15 minutes ago and i pushed down on the top of it on accident and it made this weird squealing noise...... Whut is this about?

My 2nd question is running multiple batteries in the rear. How should i run them? Say i have 1 batt under hood, 2 batts in the rear. To make this more understandable the batt under the hood will be battery A, the 2 in the rear will be battery B amd C. Should i run 0g from A to B and then another from A to C? or should i run 0g from A to B and then from B run + and - to C? If u dont get whut im saying ill make a little chart on request so thats just my questions.

Sorry for the novel too lol. Thanks guys

I had a Kinetik do that on the charger, the top of the battery under the sticker is where it will discharge from if it is going to do it. I've been told that it isn't good for them but I never noticed anything wrong with that battery after that happened.

Ya I have also had that happen on one of my kinetiks the battery still seems to work fine, but I monitor it a lot just in case something happens. Second like treo said b bars are the easiest route to go with (But expensive) if your going to go with that and are limited on funds look into aluminum I found they work good and are way cheaper than copper. When running multiple batteries to a trunk or cargo space its easiest to run + to + and - to -. When doing this make sure to fuse the 8-12 from the front battery on the power cable and the same on the rear. Some people will say you dont need to add the second fuse to the rear battery, but if you happen to have a short or a cut wire your front fuse will blow; however your back battery will still be live and weld its self to the bus bar. Hope this helps

The battery is being charged at too high of a voltage. Any time an AGM battery gasses, it is being overheated by being charged at too high of voltage, to much current, or both. The sound you are hearing is electrolyte in a gaseous form escaping out the one way check valve. (wich prevents the battery hull from pressurizing and exploding) Once the electrolyte escapes from the hull, it is gone forever. The more gassing occurs, the less capacity the battery will have, and the shorter it's lifespan will be.

Yes, what he said. Also run the bus bars as well. My 16 volt kintiks did this and they were being charged at a high voltage off of the alternator. Mine stopped when I started charging at a lower, better, more stable charge. Also the bus bars are going to stableize your battery bank and might even help you gain!
