MOUZEBINN Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 so I'll temporarily have a 400RMS x 1 @ 2 ohm alpine hooked to my Fi 15" SSD 800RMS how can I get 400RMS from my amp or maxiumum power without clipping or damaging my sub with distortion, would I just turn my gain all the way up and turn any boosts off? I have a DMM would I just hook it up and find 40.0 as in 400RMS? Guest Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 40v =/= 400w. absolutely not. theres math involved 400w * 2 ohms = 800 the square root of 800 is 28.28 so you need 28.28v (AC VOLTS NOT DC) coming out of the speaker terminals to get 400rms going to the sub. that alpine amp is only stable down to 2 ohms so i hope you dont try to wire it to 1 ohm. and you have 5 gauge on that amp or something? what do you mean by 5/8 gauge wiring edit: when tuning the gain turn ALL equalizers off, like bassboost, loud, bass, etc. dont use bassboost on the amp. the only knob or setting you should be changing is the Gain knob on the amplifier. thats it. when tuning the gains, turn the headunit volume to your general listening level, dont exceed 3/4th volume though. and dont have the sub hooked up either. thats the generally correct way to do it.

Also I usually listen to my systed at like 28 out of 30 because thats when my speakers and bass is loudest, anything lower than that my speakers arent loud to my liking... anyway to turn my deck upto more than 3/4 volume like say 3.5/4 lol maybe turn gain down just a little to compensate? Also if its a true 400RMS alpine why can't I just put the gain ALL the way up? doesn that mean 400W is output with full power I guess I'm just confused... also whats a good testing hz and a good song known for that hz to test with im guessing 50hz since thats what my amp will be set at?
