Sorta sounds like he's just talking out of his ass. But I'd call some local shops(specialty transmissions shops if you have one locally) and see what they'd charge to rebuild yours or if they have any rebuilt ones in stock. Also look into local junkyards and check if they have any available for a cheap cost. I see that you have much larger tires on your truck, I'm guessing that you didn't do any tranny upgrades to prevent strain from running the larger tires?? 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer... steven Posted December 29, 2009 Report Share Posted December 29, 2009 Well based on the fact you said you put it in reverse and heard the clunk im assuming its an auto tranny correct? If so its pretty costly to put in Im getting one installed on my wives cr-v. Another question (if its an automatic) does it slip outta gear when driving on the highway?
