bigjsurdaddy
does a amps efficiency go up or down as the ohms go from say 4 to 1?

cqtama
an ohm is a measure of electrical resistance. soo 1 ohm is less than 4 ohms therefore has less resistance and the amp will put out more power at 1 ohm than 4 Quote R.I.P '01 blazer you treated my ears well until your transmission blew up. cqtama
thank you very much, and as far as alternators and batteries are concerned, do you have your new amp in yet? if so how bads your voltage dropping? i would start with a battery in the back and go from there. a kinetic or xs power somewhwewe around 12 or 1800. deka also makes very good batteries. skittlesRgood
no no no no. the amp puts out more power at a lower resistance, yes, but it becomes much less efficienct. so the saz1500 is something like 80% efficient at 4ohm. at 1ohm its closer to 65% efficient and takes a lot more electrical to be able to support it. so now your trippling the power output and your amp is 15% less efficient so itll take a ton more electrical to keep up. skittlesRgood
eh, my numbers were a little off but here is a bunch of info for this question. just look at the test results. http://audioforum.termpro.com/cgi-bin/ubb/...20;t=013151;p=0 Quote If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. creyc
I can vouch for everything skittles said, indeed amps get LESS efficient at lower ohms, but put out more power. Most amp efficiencies are rated at 4 ohms, say 86%. At 1 ohm this same amp might only be 70% efficient.
