Marlo Stanfield Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 I have the 15" D1 with copper coils and im only running it @ 400RMS and let me tell you it SMACKS I can only imagine the 18" @ 800RMS. As far as power handling if you get BP power or flatwind coil it supposidly can handle 300-500 more RMS than the stock version. Get the 18" Copper Coil BP Power and it will take 1000RMS daily. REMEMBER that's only 400RMS with 3" less cone area than the 18" so a BP power 18" with 1000RMS will smack! That's not how it works dude, an 18" woofer has 77.715" more cone area vs. a 15" woofer. If you tune your box to 6-10cu @ 28hz then yes you can expect something like that @ 1000RMS. The Q is a nice subwoofer but dont expect night and day differences between that and the SSD a loaded SSD is very comparible to a stock Q. I would never suggest building an enclosure tuned that low for daily purposes... It will be severely lacking with any kind of bass above of 35hz or so, where 99.9% of music is. If the OP were to tune in the 32-35hz range, it will still kill the lows all the same while also being able to pick up the higher bass notes. Makes it so that it's not all concentrated on super low bass, that is in a very limited selection of music. why would it be louder if its the same power? sorry im new to all this haha Off say 1000w daily an SSD will most likely be louder because it is a little more focused on SPL, while the Q is more focused towards SQ while still having a good output potential. I'm a huge fan of SSDs and off this amount of power I'd run one over a Q any day. I've seen it tested before that up to like 1200w daily the fully loaded SSD is louder than the Q is, not by a significant amount but none the less it's louder. SSDs in the proper enclosure and setup can be run with like 1500w daily, but you'd have to be very careful and understand the mechanical/thermal breaking points on that much power. 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer... As long as the box is built correctly and the gains are set properly then it would be the perfect woofer for his setup... Guest Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 no such thing as Peak power. its total bullcrap. alot of the underground brands dont have Peak power because it doesnt mean anything and that noone should ever go by peak power. an AQ1200d at 1 ohm would be fine for a fully loaded SSD in my opinion. as long as you build the right box and have the gains tuned correctly i cant see a problem with it
