kickerfanatic
i got this amp and it was working fine for about a month.. all of a sudden as soon as i connect any sub to the amp the sub will sound as if its plugged into a wall socket and it will blow it within seconds.. i mean any sub.. the amp is 600 watts rms.. it blew a 15'' mtx 9500 also a 12'' jl w7 ... the mtx sub was mine and the lw7 sub was my friends.. it was his brite idea to try it on my amp.. he said no amp can blow that sub.. stupid idiot..lol.. but yeah i stuck my multimeter in the speaker terminals of the amp when powered on and they read 58.3 volts.. is that fucking crazy or what..? is this normal.. and there was nothing hooked up to the rca's either.. what could be wrong with the amp..? thanks Quote 4 15'' kicker L7 subs ( only 2 being used right now ) 1 kicker zx2500.1 ( another soon 2 come ) box is 9.5 cubic feet slot portd thur the back seat 1 kicker zx650.4 amp powering 4 10'' ev dl10x mids ( rear deck ) 1 kicker zx350.4 power 4 8'' beyma 8mi100 mid/highs ( 1 on each door ) 2 runs of zero gauge wire ( about 60 feet total. ) big 3 done in zero gauge kicker wire 3 runs of 4 gauge for voice amps and eq' and crossover 2 kinetik hc1800 batteries in the trunk and 1 optima yellow top under the hood 260 amp irragi high output alternator ( soon to be 2 alt's ) alpine cda 9856 ipod headunit kicker kx3 3 way crossover & a old school alpine 3342 digital 11 band sound field processor eq. Neo_frog
I had almost the exact same problem when I did my tunnel build. Fortunately, the load was spread across too many subs to blow them, but it was a fucking LOUD burp that scared the shit out of me. IIRC the problem for me was a speaker wire popped out of the amp and fell on one of my battery's terminals. I don't remember which terminal, but that was my issue. Quote Need an install? kickerfanatic
or also check your ground and power and rem wire if its got any cuts gashes anywhere or open the amp and see if anything looks out of place my wires are all fine.. power, ground, remote and speakers.. i even bench tested the amp with a kinetik battery and a 10'' pyramid sub i had and the second i put the speakers from the sub to the amp even with no signal plugeed into the rca's the sub was flexing like no tomorrow then blew out and smoked within 10 seconds.. and gain is less then 1/4 the way up.. i believe its the amp but i looked inside and nothing seems burnt or popped.. also is the 58.3 volts reading from the speaker terminals on the amp that im getting any good..? its sounds like way too much voltage to me.. Mobile Chassis Dyno
Sounds like the amp needs to go in the trash. 58 volts is bad news. I can only imagine the current draw depending on the impedence of the sub.
